question on two places

by John Hagan » Fri Feb 20, 2009 9:34 am

I just got my new Louisville metro yellow book. While looking at the "menu" section I saw a couple of places that caught my eye. Any thoughts on the International Mall(737 s. 8th) serving goat meat plate 5.99,Sambusa for a buck, jerked chicken breakfast sandwich 4.99. Looks interesting. The other spot I have not heard anybody mention on this forum is Aloha Grill 942 Baxter. Looks like its my price range at least. Anybody go there?
Oh yeah, forgot to add...in the coupon section in the back,10% at Vietnam Kitchen.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

I have no idea what Aloha Grill is. That spot appears to be the building just to right (facing the buildings) of the old Wet Willy's (some Irish pub now). If you keep walking to the right, you quickly hit Flanagan's.

I wasn't aware a food establishment was in that space, but then again I don't hit the Baxter Avenue bars with the frequency I once did.

After a brief google session, it appears the Aloha grill has a myspace page, but no true website. I would check it out, but myspace is blocked here at work.

Alas, poor Willy's. In my opinion, we already have more than enough Irish pubs in this town, and Willy's was a nice departure from the trend. I guess I can't complain too much though, because they did at least keep the Blues Brothers grotto.

Aloha is attached to 'the old' Wet Willy's. They only changed the name though, due to a lawsuit threat from another place with a similar name of Wet Willie's.

Yeah, I knew that Wet Willie's was a chain bar in the southeast (bars in Charleston, Savannah, Miami, etc.). I thought the one on Baxter was part of the chain, since they had those frou frou slurpee's there. Mistaken?

Is there one on 4th St.?

What is Aloha? Is it owned by whatever bar is in that space now, or separate? Food?

Wet Willy's and Wet Willies were not affiliated, thus the name chain. Aloha is an independent run by a locale Hawaiian man. I haven't eaten there yet though. I know nothing about 4th street. I only make it as far as the bookstore there, if I can help it.

According to the ad in the phone book, located in Dublins cellar. They offer "Kahuna" burgers,Pineapple BBQ chicken,Spam burger and "Waikiki" wings among others. While it looks a bit campy, Im not one to knock Amer/Poly type restaurants. I am huge fan of Trader Vics, one place I have never found a KY equivalent to. I would not think place this is in the same class at all as Vics, but I have been known to enjoy myself at lesser Tiki bars. Looks like prices range from 4.00 for either a vegetable spring roll, six wings 6.00,mango salsa &shrimp chips 4.00,ten inch pizza 8.00, to pan seared salmon w/passion fruit thyme glaze10.50 or the most expensive on the list Hawaiian mix platter combo of beef short ribs/pineapple chicken at 11.00.
