Sarah Fritschner now editor of Food & Dining

by Robin Garr » Thu Feb 19, 2009 5:41 pm

Sarah Fritschner, longtime food editor of The Courier-Journal, is now editor-in-chief of Food & Dining magazine. The mag's Winter 2009 issue, now on the streets, is the first issue on her watch. With Dan Dry's prize-winning pnotography, it remains a good-looking publication. This issue, now available on news stands at local food shops like Lotsa Pasta and Burger's, features profiles on Varanese, Morris' Deli, Lilly's and La Rosita; the usual beverages columns by David Lange (coffee), Jerry Slater (liquor), Roger Baylor (beer); Jay Forman's hilarious food-humor writing, recipes from Sullivan University chefs and many more.

With publication of the prior (Fall 2008) issue, LouisvilleHotBytes.com concluded its relationship with the magazine, which I had served as editor in chief for several years. Food & Dining, however, did choose to republish capsule restaurant reviews licensed from LouisvilleHotBytes.com in this issue.

Fritschner, who had held the CJ Food Editor post through the sale of the newspapers to Gannett Corp. and remained there for more than two decades, resigned last year to do free-lance food publicity work.

Added: Roger's beer column features a great profile of forumite Todd Antz and his beer program at Keg Liquors. It's worth picking up for that reason alone.

If we ever get Bourdain to film a show here, I definitely think that Sarah should do the home cooking segment....
Don't forget we are trying to get them to bring the production crew here and film what we have to offer.....

You have no idea how relieved I am to read this. I had this great idea to do an interview, and then came away with 3,500 words for paring down to 900. It truly is wonderful to know that it turned out, although I may have taxed an editor or three.

Hate to see Robin go ... happy with Sarah's arrival. F & D is a fine publication, and it pleases me to be a part of it.

Robin- I also hate to see you go, but I know how many "irons you have in the fire", and how you always want to give each venue your very best. It has truly been a pleasure working with you in the magazine, but I am also looking forward to Sarah's direction of the magazine. She also has been a Louisville culinary staple for many years. I have to agree with Roger in that it is an honor to work on one of Louisville's premier publications.

Be sure to pick up the latest issue if not just to marvel at Dan Dry's remarkable photography.
