Chef Martin Yan demo at Norton Hospital Thursday

by Robin Garr » Tue Feb 17, 2009 1:00 pm

Although this news release implies that it's for Norton staff, the Norton PR folks assure me that it is open to the public and that anyone who's interested is welcome.

Chef Martin Yan brings his talent to Norton Hospital

Chef Martin Yan will bring a taste of pan-Asian cuisine to Norton Hospital's Downtown Campus when he visits the cafeteria to host a cooking demonstration on Thursday, Feb. 19, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Yan, host of more than 2,000 cooking shows broadcast worldwide and author of 26 cookbooks, will visit the hospital's cafeteria to prepare health-conscious meals that will become part of the cafeteria's regular meal rotation. Presented in conjunction with Norton Hospital and Morrison Healthcare Food Services, which manages the hospital's food service operations, Yan will work with the staff as well as meet with employees and guests to present his signature recipes and products. Featured dishes will include Chinese chicken salad, cashew chicken and Mongolian beef, among others.

Yan enjoys distinction as a certified master chef, food consultant, cooking instructor and author. He has written 26 cookbooks, including the award-winning "Martin Yan's Feast" and his latest, "Martin Yan's Quick & Easy." In 1978, he premiered his Chinese cooking show "Yan Can Cook."

Born in China to a restaurateur father, Yan possessed a passion for cooking at an early age and after discovering his flair for teaching, became a valued instructor at top culinary institutions. Infusing lessons with his characteristic warmth, humor and vitality, he quickly won a devoted following. Dedicated to dispelling the mysteries of Asian cooking, Yan furthers an understanding of these excellent cuisines and the cultures that created them with spirited lessons, fun and entertainment.

"We are thrilled to have such an accomplished chef visit Norton Healthcare," said Clay Cundiff, executive chef for Norton Healthcare. "This visit will be a wonderful learning opportunity for our staff. It will enable us to enhance the quality of the food we serve and increase the menu options available to our guests."
