Was she arrested? I read that she was to be arraigned Monday, but not that she was arrested. Maybe I don't have up-to-the-minute info, though.

Damn, beat me to it. That seems to be a long time after the fire to file these charges. Wild!

Well, typically one is arraigned after being arrested, though that's not necessarily the case (arraignment = formal reading of charges). I would guess that for a charge of felony arson, she would be arrested.

Okay, so I read the story. She was indicted by a grand jury, and will be arraigned next Monday. It doesn't sound like she's been taken into custody at this point, and it's possible that she just has to appear at the arraignment, and at that point bail will be set and she'll be taken into custody.

I always thought that first indicted, then arrested, then arraignment. 3 different steps to the process. It seems the first 2 are complete. You get arrested and booked/processed and then released on bond. Then you show up in court for the arraignment.

Of course, not that I've every experienced it or anything. Must have seen it on tv.

I feel for Mary Wheatley who teaches so many classes at Campbell's and also for Lida and the rest of Susan's staff. CD

Real Shame. Oh, don't worry about Mary.... she is a cat that lands on her feet! That's not her only game in town!

Oh I forgot..... I stopped at a yard sale in my neighborhood last year... it was two women selling, and one was selling housewares that smelled of smoke, and some were singed (spelling) and I was told that if I get some elbow grease going it would come off! I look up and it was Susan!

I didn't buy anything, only for the reason that I already owned most of those types of items on the table.
Imagine that!

I'm not sure why you say it's sad. If she did it she's a criminal and deserves to be punished for it, especially considering it was a felony.

Very, very sad. Susan has a wonderful store and many loyal, long-term employees. Let's all remember that being charged with something in no way means you are guilty.

Here's wishing Susan, her family and her staff strength thru this ordeal- and it will be- regardless of the ultimate legal outcome.

I fully agree. I've attended class there and know Susan. I've been through the legal system myself and know that even though we as a society state that individuals are supposedly innocent until proven guilty, in reality the opposite is what seems to be true.

You know there's always the possibility for sadness (for her family, her employees, etc.) while also holding onto ideas of criminal responsibility. Darn this American society and our desire to polarize everything.

This is terribly sad. Susan is a decent person and a longtime participant in this forum, and I'm very sorry to read of this trouble. I hope it's all cleared up in the end, and in the meantime I hope members of this community will feel compassion for her and offer her any form of support we may have to give.

Several of us heard about this earlier, and frankly none of us had the will to post it. I figured it had to come out, but even as a reporter, this one wasn't easy for me.
