We went to Basa for Valentine's Day, and were very impressed. They had a prix fixe menu that was a little higher than I would have expected ($65/person exclusive of alcohol and service - near Corbett's range), but still very good.
I started with the Basa Signature cocktail (vodka, aloe vera). It was, how do I put this, very odd. I liked it - aloe vera is very sweet, almost too sweet, but it had a strange refreshing quality to it. I wouldn't want to drain 3 or 4 of them, but it was a nice start.
We both had the soup starter, which was very good. I had the oysters two ways appetizer (3 raw on the half shell, 3 breaded and fried) - very very good. For entrees, I had the steak, which came topped with a HUGE, very thin ravioli. It was excellent, but my steak was cooked well past the medium-rare I ordered (approaching medium well. . .), and needed a little extra fat trimmed from it. The taste was good, though. My wife had the scallops, and loved them. The bananas foster flambe for dessert was also excellent.
That was our first time there, and we were impressed with the food, decor, and music selection. My one gripe (other than the over-cooked steak), was that I made the reservations more than one month in advance, but we were seated at by far the worst table in the restaurant. It was slammed, but within 20 minutes of our arrival (7:45 reservation), many other two-tops were cleared out. I just always assume that if I reserve far in advance, I stand a good chance of getting a well placed table. We were wedged next to the bar, right in the path of diners going to the bathroom (I should throw in here that the bathrooms ROCK) and servers bringing food out. It was very distracting and we never really felt at ease during our relatively lengthy meal.
Our service was very good, and we were sent home with a gift-box with 2 cookies and 2 chocolate dipped strawberries. Other than the table and the steak, I was very impressed and definitely plan to go back to eat from the menu.
