5 Guys Burgers & Fries - Summit

by Bradley W » Sun Feb 15, 2009 12:24 pm

Just saw this today on the way into Barnes & Noble - a few stores down from there with a Coming Soon sign. I haven't made the trip across the river to try it - but from the sound of it I think it will be a nice addition to the area.

While I hope it's true, it is definitely strange . . .

There is a Max & Erma's there, and normally - while you do want multiple restaurants in a center - you do not want two places that specialize in burgers! I'm surprised that Max & Erma's didn't have protection in their lease.

Andrew, 5 Guys sells basically burgers and fries. While they may have started out as a restaurant selling gourmet bugers, Max and Erma's now has a fairly large menu including apps, soups and salads, fulls dinners, burgers and other sandwiches and they even have a bar. I believe they are in different niches of the food service industry. I am actually looking forward to having a 5 Guys just down the road from me. Yummo.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

Oh, wow, I live near the Summit, and am thrilled to have another dining choice in the area. I am excited about a burgers & fries place. When we lived in Houston, TX (a long, long time ago!), we used to frequent a local burger chain called Charlie's, and I still miss it! Here's hoping for good stuff from Five Guys!

I went to their location in Atlanta. The menu is pretty simple: a couple sizes of burger, a hot dog (I think), and a couple of sizes of fries. The fries are excellent, and the one large we got ended up being enough for the entire table with some left over. The burgers are simple, but good quality, and there were lots of toppings available (I got grilled onions and hot sauce). It felt a little greasy in there - the place was very clean, but there was just grease in the air - but for a place like this it just seems part of the charm.

If I was craving a burger, this might be the place to go, so I'm pretty happy.

You know, it's not bad! I had an Atlanta sampling as well. Much, much better than Back Yard Burger (which I tried during the desperate days of no power - awful).

Formal announcement (news release)

They're a little late getting out the official word ...

Five Guys Burgers and Fries To Open at The Summit
Restaurant to make its Louisville Debut

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (February 16, 2009) – Five Guys Burgers and Fries will open at The Summit this summer.

The restaurant will have approximately 3,001 square feet and will be located next to Knotts Shoes, close to Barnes & Noble. The Arlington, Va. chain, which started in 1986, has over 360 restaurants in over 25 states. In addition, the restaurant has a ‘50s diner décor and will offer seating in an outdoor patio.

The menu options include burgers, hot dogs, grilled cheese and a veggie special, plus french fries. “Five Guys Burgers and Fries is a very welcome addition to The Summit,” says Becky Norton, Property Manager at The Summit. “The restaurant offers a different menu and fun atmosphere to our dining scene.”

This is the third restaurant to open in the Kentuckiana area, with two locations in New Albany, Ind.

The Summit Louisville is located at Brownsboro Road (KY 22) via exit 34 off the Gene Snyder Freeway.

This is great news...We really enjoy their burgers and a lot of places could (should) take a lesson from their fries (nothing previously frozen here).

We have had the chance to perform quite a bit of work for the new five guys restaurants, and have been left with the following opinion of the operation.

*Fresh and Clean are in! Food preperation is out front and center for everyone to see, poducts are kept simple and everything has it's place. They are the soup natzi's of burgers...

We have a Five Guys down the street from our house in Chattanooga, this will be big in that part of town. David didn't know you were involved, talk to me about it.

Hmmmm...................While Geneva or Reykjavik are the traditional locales for a Summit I hope these "5 Guys" show up:

Sang Yoon-Father's Office, Santa Monica, CA.
Laurent Tourondel- BLT Burger, NYC
Tim Love- Love Shack, Fort Worth, TX
Andy d'Amico- 5 Napkin Burger, NYC
Bill Smith- Shady Lane Cafe, Louisville, KY

I nominate Sang Yoon for Chair (tiny shopping carts full of french fries is genius.)

Burger diplomacy starts at home and spreads around the world. Peace breaks out.
