L & N Wine Bar and Bistro

by carla griffin » Sat Feb 14, 2009 9:30 am

Dined at L & N this past tuesday night with my sister-in-law from Carmel. She wanted someplace quiet and cozy with a nice wine list close to Frankfort Ave. . L & N was perfect. We started off with a duck confit served with a small pot of pate and little baguette slices and the sweet onion and goat cheese tart. The duck was very good but the tart was devine. For entrees Kathy had tiger fish which looked steamed (braised?) in a soft tomato stock with pretty, whole carrots. She really enjoyed the tiger fish; she said it tasted like a mild freshwater fish. I had the pork chop with granny smith apples and fig compote. I'm not a big fan of pork but I do love figs and this just sounded too good to pass up. It was devilishly good. The night was chilly and this dish made for some very fine comfort food. The chop was huge and cooked just the way I like it, with a faint hint of pink in the center. So, cooked nicely without being over cooked. I wish we had had room for desserts but after 2 flights of wine, in addition to our appetizers and entrees, we were spent. What a warm and satisfying ambiance and meal. Another Louisville winner!

Len and Nancy run a wonderful operation. It is one of my consistent favorites - absolutely in my personal top 1en.
