"Fruit & Chocolate Beer Dinner" at Come Back Inn in Jeff

by Roger A. Baylor » Fri Feb 13, 2009 11:09 pm

Apologies for not passing this along earlier, but know that there’ll be a “Fruit & Chocolate Beer Dinner” at the Come Back Inn (415 Spring Street, Jeffersonville) on Monday, February 16.

The evening is being sponsored by Come Back Inn and World Class Beverages, and begins at 6:30 p.m. The price is $70 per person, service non compris.

My plug is this: The last dinner Chris Smith and the gang put on, a Belgian one, was one of the better ones I’ve ever attended. I don’t have a complete listing of the courses and beers, though here’s the preview provided by Tish Dean of WCB:

Monday, February 16th will be a treat, featuring six courses and seven beer pairings. Each of the beers paired with the courses are either fruit based, such as a Belgian Lambic, or the Charles Wells Banana Bread Beer paired with Bananas Foster for dessert. We're also pulling out some stops with Rogue's Chocolate Stout and Young’s Double Chocolate Stout. Neither you nor your date will be disappointed with this late Valentine treat. Reservations required: Call 812-285-1777.

Ohhh this sounds wonderful! I think pretty much anything Come Back Inn does is great.

I will say this though ... with everyones budget being what it is these days, diners need more time to plan for events such this. $70 a head is $140 a couple. + at least $28 for a decent tip. That's roughly 22-25% of the average weekly take home for some folks. (based on 50G annual income.) More and more people are sticking to (or using) a budget for the extra niceitites in their life. Before, a couple days notice was fine but now restaurants need to think in terms of pay periods if they want to get in the average Joe as much as possible.

Just to clarify, my role in posting these notices (insofar as I have any role) is pretty much confined to cheerleading, and my cheerleading depends on timely information being provided me. This isn't "calling out" anyone or anything, but merely noting that all of us are busy, all the time, and things drop through those cracks. Chris at Come Back Inn doesn't so much Internet, so Tish, the beer rep, posted info on Facebook, and I didn't see it. We forgot to remind each other a time or two, and the end result is a belated posting.

Come Back Inn comes out of my pocket, and it's a busman's holiday for me. The Windsor one is a bit different, insofar as I'll be speaking and NABC will have a couple of beers there.

Extending the discussion, Come Back Inn seems very much in touch with its own patronage, which is critical. When I'm asked about helping to organize or speak at beer diners, I always try to make it clear that the concept doesn't really work unless an establishment can turn out its regulars. If there are 50 seats, at least half and preferably more need to be filled by people who like the food at the place and are willing to up the ante with different beers for a night. It will be difficult at any price point to sell 50 or 60 seats entirely to beer enthusiasts who don't usually visit the establishment in question.

Just trying to shed some light on the process.

Oh I understand. I just would like to go but cannot because my budget for the next week is allocated. That's all. I would go had I known about it earlier.
