Michelle, I've been eating at NEC for years and have yet to have a bad meal there. Breakfast, lunch or dinner, they have all been great. Two of my faves at lunch are the chicken and dumplings and any of large salads. Some of the salads do have fruit in them but I am sure they'd omit that if requested. They also make a good cheesburger. Whatever y'all choose, I hope you enjoy it a lot.

I second the burger -- it's very good....I've had their Reuben a couple of times in the past, but frankly it's a bit of a disappointment....I lunched at North End a couple of weeks ago w/some friends and one of them ordered the Reuben .... the corned beef wasn't sliced, but cubed...it was as though they were using surplus corned beef prepped for their hash from the breakfast menu ....didn't make a good presentation.

Just had lunch there for the first time in a while and was very pleased. I had the corned beef hash, it was perfectly crispy and full of flavor. My friend had the biscuits and gravy and was impressed as well. I am a late riser and a fan of breakfast too so it was nice to see that they offer that menu until 3:00. I will be returning.

Those are 2 of my faves for breakfast at NEC. You can't miss with the Migas as well. One day you might wanna try the house smoked trout hash.

in defense of the reuben....

by Nora Boyle » Fri Feb 13, 2009 5:13 pm

No, the reuben isn't sliced corned beef, but it is most certainly not leftovers from breakfast! Since we make it in house and serve the hash until 3 pm while the reuben is served from 11 until 3, it is less labour intesnsive to cube it all up as opposed to slicing some, yet cubing the rest. You can also sub turkey for the beef which makes a brilliant reuben alternative. As does the tofu. Sorry you didn't care for it, it is one of the items that I recommend. Happens to be my fave next to the curry and burger. Try it again I reckon!

Thanks for responding to my concerns about your Reuben, Nora....I will give it another chance, as I enjoy sampling Reubens from various restaurants and only a few do a really good job of making one....but your burger IS delicious, and I've always enjoyed the breakfast menu....

Boy oh boy! My husband and I had a lovely V-Day brunch on Sunday and the FABULOUS Nora took great care of us. To top it off, I had one of the best sandwiches there....the Turkey Rueben! Killer! Thanks, Nora
