Any places doing anything special for WCQ Mexico VS USA???

by Brian Taylor Clark » Wed Feb 11, 2009 4:28 pm

After living in Mexico for awhile I finally got into watching soccer. Tonight is the World Cup Qualifier soccer match Mexico Vs. USA at 7:00. Have you all heard of any restaurants or bars doing something special for the match???

My husband is a soccer freak and he goes to Molly Malones on Baxter Ave to watch the English Premier League on some channel they have there. I dont know if they are doing anything special tonight but when he makes me go with him, I always see a bunch of soccer fans there. I know I have been there for previous USA games where I have seen people in USA shirts.

Also, my husband dragged me to Monkey Wrench on Barrett Ave. during the last World Cup to watch soccer there. There were a bunch of people there at that time too. Again, I dont know if they are doing something special, but that place seemed to be soccer friendly.

I watched a couple of Mexico vs etc. World Cup games at La Tapatia, and I would guess just about any of the taquerias with televisions will have them turned to El Futbol tonight. (On the other hand, I went to one of the more Anglo-Mex places - El Tarasco in St. Matthews, as I recall, and they just looked at me funny when I asked about World Cup.)

I know Monkey Wrench has a band tonight (and every Wednesday) at 9:00 P.M. The show is free, and it's great bluegrass by Relic. I don't know how long a soccer match typically lasts, but I could see the end of it colliding with the band performance.

We're thinking about watching at Lou Lou Highlands. The big screens are great and the beer list is muy excelente!

Wow, what a great alternate idea! LOL....

Jeremy, if you do, be sure to avail yourselves of some of my Devil's in the Details Devil's Food Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting. And Wild Bill's Cajun Cheese with house made breadsticks is a real winner for sports-watching, as well. And we have chicken wings...

Okay, now you have to go ;)

I am not trying to hijack the thread but this just happened so I thought I would share. I randomly walked into Gerstles in St. Matthews with some friends on a Monday. I didnt realize they have Steve Cooley doing bluegrass every Monday. It was good stuff.

The last time I was stuck with watching my grandsons soccer match, it lasted about 21 hours, or so it seemed.
