Gordita trailer

by John Hagan » Tue Feb 10, 2009 9:33 am

Given the forums most recent love affair with the taco trailer I just wanted to give a shout out to the Gordita trailer. For awhile it seemed somebody was always posting something about this place. Even the guy who works the counter (Pat?)noted a lack of Hotbyters coming by. Our trip last friday showed us that this trailer was still rocking and wants you to come a knocking. While I know that its almost criminal not to get the gorditas, I cant help myself when it comes to the pastor tacos. I cant put my finger on whats all in that marinated pork, but pineapple must play a key role. A few pastors,a couple of desebradas, cup of elotes and a couple of pineapple jarritos really hit the spot. If you havent been yet or you havent been in a while you should make your way over to the Eastland shopping center on Bardstown rd and hit up the Gordita guy.
As a side note, enroute to the Gordita guy a stop at BBC tap room on Main was in our plans. Just like a mango shaped girl in the back of the bar, the tap room is always up for a dance(so to speak). The tap room has got to be on of the most comfortable places around to get a pint. We always get that "cheers" type feeling when we come in. A smiling Dave was there with hearty hello and somewhat under the weather Rob provided his somewhat witty banter. Its interesting to look around and see all the different walks of life that hang out at the tap room. Its really a melting pot of ages, income brackets, workers and artists. As I said for the Gordita guy, if you havent been your really missing out
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

My family and I fell in love with this place pretty much since the first time we tried it. I think we've eaten here at least once a week for the past four months.

Pat Costas. Really a nice guy.

I feel sad that we haven't been out since the initial flurry, but man, the weather has been horrible! Even before the ice storm, I love places like Las Gorditas and Los Toreados, but it's tough to stand out in the cold at the window. Gimme a little springtime and we'll be THERE.

Can you hear that?.... its the worlds smallest violin playing just for Robin. Standing out in the cold is part of the charm of places like this. :D

Thanks John for such a pleasant post. Business is still decent even with the bone numbing cold weather we have had. We are still setting up on Friday - Sunday at 3 PM until about 10 PM. Mid March we will of course extend our hours as we did last year. Many nights we were there until 1 Am. What the heck if people want to buy tacos or gorditas or what have you at that time of the day we are happy to accomodate them. Just out of curiosity folks, we are interested in your ideas on items to add to the menu for the spring of this year. Please don't hesitate to let us know of your ideas. Keep in mind though, the ideas must comply with the "Authentic Mexican" theme! In other words we refuse to become "Americanized" as there are plenty of Americanized Mecican eateries in Louisville. Also one last note, as to weather conditions, we have been known to set up in pretty frigid conditions, however, major winds or ice or snow makes for pretty dangerous conditions for pulling the trailer. If you may be wanting to come visit us and are in need of knowing whether or not we are going to set up please call us at 502-492-0112. We look forward to seeing and serving you. :D

Heya all,

I live close by so I have no excuses. I'll give the Gordita trailer a little love this weekend.
Pat, this summer Aguas frescas would be a real treat. Talk to you soon.

Warm regards,
Sarita

Pat,
Since you asked for ideas, how about conchinita pibil? I realize it's technically a Mayan dish.

Hey folks thanks for the ideas, keep em coming. As far as chicharones, come on down, we have been serving them and in my biased opinion they are the best of the best! On weekends I tend to eat tacos for lunch and always have 2 of the chicharon. I love em

What about Tamales? Are they authentic? I know we had these TomTom tamales in Chicago at almost every hotdog stand in town. They were not authentic Im sure, but they were fairly tasty.
