I've never made it to Koreana, but I've always been impressed with Lee's.

I took a lady from Hong Kong to Lee's last year and she told me the food there was just like it is in Korea. She especially liked the noodle dishes. Being as she's visited Korea many times, I'm taking her word on it. Personally, I've been going to Lee's for many years and have always been more than satisfied with the food and service.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

Lee's is my favorite. Usually more Asian customers than westerners.

However Koreana has a more extensive menu. Not quite as good as Lee's, but close.

well, we were not destined to have Korean food for lunch. Lee's isn't open on Sunday and Koreana doesn't open until 5 on Sunday. One night this week, I guess. Thanks!

There is a place on Hurstbourne (it used to be on Bardstown Rd but was destroyed by a fire a few years back) in the Kroger shopping plaza in Middletown. I never ate there but I viewed their menu--it is Korean and Japanese.........I have eaten at Lees on a number of occasions and once at Koreana and enjoyed them both.

This thread reminds me of how much I miss Kim's.

I recently ate at Lee's for the first time. I was happy to discover Tempura served the way I had been introduced to it years ago (at I think it was Taste Of Seoul?), it was shredded vegetables, not whole vegetable just battered and fried.
I am the original Mike G, never mind the impostor.

I am kind of a big deal.

There's also Arirang in Middletown as well. My family only goes to Koreana for kalbi, which is Korean bbq steak grilled tableside. Everything else, we cook it ourselves at home!

Our restaurant, Sake Blue, though it is a Japanese bistro, has a couple of Korean dishes such as Stonepot Bibimbap, Spicy Marinated Pork, Bulgogi, and Spicy Sushi Rice Bowl (in korean, it's called "Hweh Dub Bapp"). Since my family is of Korean descent, we couldn't resist putting a couple of our family recipes in the menu :)

Wasn't Choi's opening a restaurant, or did I misread a thread?

i think the place James is thinking of is Shah's Mongolian Grill. The menu there is mostly Korean. I ate there last night and ordered Dok Boki, which isn't on the menu but is my favorite Korean dish ever and extremely hard to find. It was very good. And if you like spicy, this a wonderful dish to try. The sauce is made from a paste of those hot little red peppers.

I was also wondering about Choi's. I went a few weeks ago, thinking that they had finally reopened there lunch counter. I even called first and was told that yes, it was open. But I think whoever I spoke to didn't understand what I was asking, because when I got there, I could find no sign of a lunch counter of any sort. And they used to make amazing Dok Boki. It made me sad.

I'm going to have to relay the message to the Choi's that their lunch/dinner bar is high in demand. They probably have no idea! I'll tell them the next time I go in for my Korean groceries. I miss their dduk bokki too!

This is correct--it is Arirang and it is on Shelbyville Rd, not Hurstbourne as I mistakingly posted earlier

OMG!!!! I didnt realize Shah's had dduk boki and had no idea the menu is mostly Korean. I havent been there for years... when 2 Hahn's first opened. I know the previous owners were Korean but didnt realize the new owners were also (or at least put Korean on the menu). I am so there. I hope they are quick with their water refills.... if all goes well with the dduk boki, I'll need it. One of favorite memories is getting dduk boki from street vendors in Seoul.

Also, Sohee, if you put kimchee chijae on the menu, you won't be able to get me out of there.

So we made it to Lee's today for lunch. It was . . . interesting . . .

There was one server who was so in the weeds, she was actually jogging between tables and counter. Once our dishes finally came out from the kitchen, mine was very wrong. It contained chicken which I noticed only after eating several bites. So we reminded the server that I'd requested tofu and she replied, "Oh that's right! I'll have it remade." So that gets wrapped up for take home (and we weren't charged for it. DH can eat it.) and in a few minutes out comes another dish that does indeed have tofu. Unfortunately it wasn't what I ordered, but heck I was way hungry at that point. So . . . we'll give them another chance.

Damn, I miss Kim's.
