sake blue

by NoraV » Sun Feb 08, 2009 10:24 am

Ate last night for second time at Sake Blue. What a gorgeous venue for food served so beautifully. Even the restroom is most attractive, with appropriate music payed quietly. The place was full, even with the bad economy and with no published review. It appears that the people in this area were ready for a sophisticated restaurant. And Sake Blue is certainly that. On the seafood side, the sushi was amazingly fresh, a shrimp lightly wrapped with shoestring potatoes was marvelous with the sauce. And a vegetable roll was just right for me to follow with bibimbop. That was the best I have ever eaten - and I have had a few. The beef was wonderfully flavored and tender, The rice on the bottom of the very hot stone pot was delightfully crisp and hot, the egg on top had runny yolk - aah, perfections. My husband's scallop dish was equally good - he shared a very tiny bite with me as he polished his plate clean. Good apple sake, beautifully served. I could not have done better in Chicago.

Excellent review, and another warm welcome to Nora! We love it when new friends mark their arrival by jumping right in.

I really, really need to get out to Sake Blue. My natural hesitance to go outside the Watterson got worse during the summer of $4 gas, but that's not enough of an excuse to prompt me to miss something that sounds as good as this. :)

Robin,
Aspen Creek is opening soon and if it delivers like many are anticipating--diverse menu at inexpensive prices, you may be heading south of the Snyder, helas!

After having read your review I decided to stop by this afternoon to take a look and view the menu--wow! you are right. The place is exceptionally nice and can hold its own on looks and design with most other restaurants around town. The menu has a very wide range of offerings at a reasonable price--including several Korean dishes. I reported back to my wife and we will certainly be stopping off for dinner the first chance we get.
