Best Thai in Louisville

by Lisa W » Fri Feb 06, 2009 8:17 pm

Last week I was in Las Vegas and ate at Lotus (I thin that is the correct name) that Robin had suggested. I was soooooo wonderful. Now I want great Thai here in Louisville. I went to Jade Palace as they have Thai on there menu and it was a Sunday; however, the two items that we ordered were actually Chinese. Which of the Thai restaurants in Louisville are your favs?

Oh, that's easy. Simply Thai. (And over in Indiana, Mai's Thai.)

Simply Thai, hands down.

If you like spicy food, keep in mind that their scale is actually 1-10 even though they only tell you 1-5.

The first time I ate there, we jokingly tried to order a 10 for one of my friends, only to find out that they used to actually use the 10 point scale. Apparently they had a lot of trouble with big, burly men coming in and ordering 7's to impress their girlfriends and then ending the night crying in the corner.

Also, be advised that the mother (or grandmother, I'm not sure which) occasionally throws extra peppers into some of the spicier dishes when she's around, so the consistency at 5 and beyond drops off a bit from time to time. Last time I ate there though, I got and 9 and I'm starting to close in on my limit. I've been going up by 1 point (starting at 4) every time I eat there, and once I hit 10 I might settle down at a nice comfy 8.

I feel the need to amend the fact that if you really do love hot food, a 5 is a fine place to start.

Thai Taste on lower Brownsboro is my favorite for Thai. If you're going for spice, they do a great job as well. They use a scale of 1 to 5. I usually hover around 3, give or take.

I also recently tried Thai Orchid, on Hurstborne, and was very very impressed.

Doogy likes it a lot too. Tell them you don't want American hot and MEAN it. They will adjust accordingly.

Thai Taste is the favorite of me and my group. Just went there for dinner tonight! Enjoyed the vegetarian hot and sour soup, corn cake, and gang garee curry with tofu (well, part of each at least. That's a lot of food.)

Definitely Simply Thai. The owners are actually the same people who used to make the sushi for Amazing Grace's deli section. Try the black sticky rice pudding for dessert. Never have been able to duplicate at home.

When I eat at Thai Smile in Frankfort I only order the 2 star. I don't know how high their heat scale goes.

Lemongrass is an excellent choice. I especially love their clay pot dishes. However, I think the one on Bardstown closed and has been replaced by La Que.

My vote is for simply Thai also. We ate there last night and the curry was great as always. My only problem is that they never seem to keep low sodium soy. Once you get use to the low sodium stuff the full strength is just to salty for me and I like salt.
