Bombay Grill

by Steve P » Tue Feb 03, 2009 12:08 pm

The "offline" at the Bombay Grill last Saturday was very enjoyable. The food was great and it was nice to see so many smiling faces. That being said I did want to mention one thing that I found a bit unsettling. When it was time to settle the bill, Becky and I realized we were low on cash so we put our share of "the tab" on our debit card. When the receipt was brought out for signature I happened to notice that the entire card number was printed on the merchants copy of the receipt. It have long had the understanding that this was no longer permitted and that only the last 4 digits of the card appear on any receipt (merchant or customer). Rather than have my card number floating around, before returning the receipt I took a dark pen and scratched out all but the last 4 digits on the merchants copy.

Please note that I am not...let me say that again...I am not suggesting any kind of dishonesty or illegal activity. I'm guessing this is more of a processing center issue than it is a restaurant issue. The Bombay Grill is a very nice establishment and worthy of your business but as a past victim of minor identity theft I am very cautious about my debit card number floating around. Assuming a lot of you feel the same I thought this word of caution was in order.

Sounds like they've got an older credit card machine. I know I finally had to buy a new one and the new ones are compliant with the new rules about only showing those last four digits.

However, new machines are $$$ and there are cheap machines available second hand. Not saying that's what they did, but it could be an explanation.

Anyway, you did the right thing.
