The Pizza at Blue Dog is SOOOO Good

by Eliza W » Mon Feb 02, 2009 2:29 pm

I'm surprised that no one has posted about the pizza at Blue Dog. I meant to post when I had it, but with the snow and everything, I put it off.

It's a fairly thick piece of really good crust, great texture, with a bit of crispness outside and chewiness inside. Topped with awesome, thick bacon and two perfectly cooked eggs. Don't ask me how they managed to get both the crust and the eggs to the perfect degree of doneness, but they did. The white was cooked all the way through with no slime, but there was still some runniness in the yolk. Also, some slightly spicy greens to offset the heaviness. It was just so, so very good.

I guess no one has ever discussed it because they had not discovered it! :D I eat at Blue Dog quite a bit but didn't realize they had pizza. How fantastic! I assume its for lunch because they have not started dinner service have they??

Dittoes! We mostly do breakfast there, but lunch as well, and I didn't realize they had pizza. I assume the crust is a Blue Dog product? That would be, er, awesome. (Speaking of cozy-yet-sophisticated Frankfort Avenue landmarks, Caffe Classico also has outstanding pizza - thin-crust, a Bosnian recipe (which is actually very close to true Italian). I'm seeing a progressive dinner option here ...

It was for lunch a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't "pizza" like I grew up with, but rather a thick crust in an oblong/oval shape. The crust was similar in quality to the Blue Dog bread, and I'm guessing from a similar taste made with similar leavening (a good, complex taste, not one-note). But I'm not a baker, so who knows.

That sounds delish.... BD also has(d) a Basque Region dish called Piperade.... tomato and pepper saute with poached eggs on the Levain bread!
Outstanding!
