Restaurant offers free Hot Soup to Neighbors without Power

by David A » Fri Jan 30, 2009 3:09 pm

Varanese Restaurant, 2106 Historic Frankfort Avenue,
is offering complimentary White Chile and
Jalepeno Cheddar Cornbread from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.
DAILY (Closed for Super Bowl) to anyone who is
without power, on the honor system, while supplies last.

"This is just a little something that we can do
to help warm everyone up a bit. We're all in this together.
We lost power for awhile during the last storm. I challenge other
restaurants in other neighborhoods to do the same...
Maybe create a free soup du jour grid around the city,"

That is a great gesture.... I've had plenty of people asking me for free beer to help get them through the cold times with no power. If I started that, I'd have to get the National Guard out here to protect the building.

David,

That is wonderful! What a great gesture of support. I'm already a big fan of your place, and now an even bigger one.

It certainly shows what a classy individual John is. He is certainly giving back to his community. It's a very valor gesture you are making.

Thanks Stephen - I hope you are doing well at Z's. I hope to get down there and see you soon. I'm sure you have come up with some innovative cocktails.

This is indeed a nice gesture. We arrived for an 8:15 reservation and were offered the soup so it's not just until 7, at least not last night. I passed as I wanted to leave room for the main course and desert. We both very much enjoyed our dinner and service was very attentive but not rushed at all. In fact I don't think we left until after 11. I'm wondering what took me so long to try this place. It certainly won't take me so long to go back :D

You need to get one of those "free beer tomorrow" signs.

When in doubt, add more wine.
