Got electricity? Restaurant/food shop closed? Post here

by Robin Garr » Wed Jan 28, 2009 8:55 am

Tell us your stories ... and restaurateurs, feel free to post announcements about your status, opening hours, etc., during the storm.

We've still got electricity here at LHB central, but I'm not confident it will last - our utility wires come in to the house right rhough the middle of a huge magnolia tree that's hangin' low. :(

Tree limbs are down everywhere here near Lime Kiln and US 42. We still have power. I was outside about 6:00 and every 10-15 sec you could hear tree limbs snap and then fall. We also saw what at first looked like lightning but was actually transformers blowing up. I live on a very large lot with lots of old trees; I have plenty firewood at this point.

Everyone stay safe.

I can only see one limb down in the woods behind my home. (The remnant winds of Hurricane Ike did a pretty good job of thinning out the weak branches.) My electricity is underground, so unless a main transformer goes, should be in good shape. However, I get DISH TV and the satellite has iced up, so no TV. No big deal, but is there a decadent radio station in this town the does news, weather, updates and closings? If so, I haven't found it. Your input is requested please.

Walmart on Theirman and Kroger on Hubbards were both closed at 8:00 this morning. Picked up bread, bacon ,and eggs at Walgreens on Lyndon Lane.

We're OK here. Hurricane Ike did a lot of pruning in Old Lou as well! Although we do have what used to be a tall, thin evergreen now making an upside down U in the yard . . .

Gayle, I can't give you advice on a "decadent radio station", though I'm sure there are a couple of them in town. LOL But, you can usually rely on 84 WHAS AM radio for road closings, school closings, etc. They may switch to syndicated talk radio at Noon (Limbaugh), but till then they are usually reliable for emergency news updates.

WLKY (Channel 32/ Insight cable channel 5) is continuing their flake-by-flake coverage of the snow emergency. (That's true as of 9:45 A.M.)

We've got power at Keg Liquors (but none at home in Sellersburg yet), so we'll be open. I had an easier time driving in today than I did yesterday morning.

Be carefull about sledding. the Metro is not allowing sledding in the parks because of the potential of falling tree limbs....

WLKY is still on with continuous flake-by-flake coverage for some unknown reason. They keep repeating the same thing every 10 minutes and have their reporters standing along the roads getting sprayed by slush! Definitely time to go find another channel with something worth watching on. Of course WHAS is off the air (on cable at least) and WAVE is even less informative.

Lost power in Clifton sometime in the middle of the night. I spent the rest of the night listening to the trees moan groan and snap. I am now in my office in the Highlands - and we have power obviously! But trees were literally crashing around me on my way here. I have a deadline I have to meet and then I am out of here. ALthough it is much warmer here than at home - maybe I should just stay here!
