Sources for two very different ingredients

by Melissa Richards-Person » Tue Jan 27, 2009 7:16 pm

For two different recipes, I need to locate sources for two unusual ingredients

First, Passion Fruit pulp or puree

Second, Pork Cheeks....
Anyone have suggestions?

I think you can get the puree from creation gardens. Second do you mean jowl bacon or the actual cheek muscle?

Passion Fruit pulp/puree - are you going to make that 6 layer coconut cake in Fine Cooking (or was it Bon Apetite)?

Melissa,

We've purchased frozen Passion Fruit puree at Liquor Barn ( In fact. ironically I need some now for a salad recipe- I'll let you know if I find it there)

For the pork cheeks, I'd call at butcher ( Butcher's Best?) and /or call a mexican Carniceria ( language could be an issue though).

The recipe calls for cheeks, so I'm going to assume the latter - actual cheek muscle, not jowl bacon

I've seen a variety of different purees at Whole Foods. Not for sure about passion fruit, maybe call ahead.

For the Puree try Creation Garden, they have a lot of different frozen puree flavors. for the Cheeks check with Kingsley meats, if they dont have it they may know where to get it.
