Cafe Lou Lou Highlands Artisanal Cheese and Beer Pairings

by Marsha L. » Fri Jan 23, 2009 3:00 pm

Clay asked me to let you all know that Cafe Lou Lou in the Highlands is going to "swank things up affordably" this weekend, offering a handmade cheeses board, optionally paired with a flight of microbrewery beers. The cheese plate (four different 1-oz samples) will be offered as either an appetizer or the dessert course. The cheese board alone will be only $9.95, and if you opt for the paired flight of beers, it's $18.50.

Cheese #1: Rogue Creamery Chocolate Stout Cheddar (Oregon). This hearty cheese's rind is washed in Rogue Brewery's Chocolate Stout as it ages. Optionally paired with BBC Bourbon Barrel Stout.

Cheese #2: Rogue Creamery Smokey Blue (Oregon). This tangy blue cheese is cold-smoked for 16 hours over hazelnut shells. Optionally paired with Arcardia London Porter.

Cheese #3: Marieke’s Foenegreek Gouda by Holland Family Farms (Wisconsin). This award-winning gouda is made with an authentic Old World Gouda recipe. The equipment, cultures, herbs and spices are all imported from Holland. Optionally paired with Bell's Winter White.

Cheese #4: Carr Valley Mobay Cheese (Wisconsin). This is a combination of a layer of goat milk cheese and a layer of sheep's milk cheese, with a layer of grape vine ash in between. Optionally paired with Stone IPA.

We're very excited about the new cheese plate - come out and try it with or without the paired beers, or pair it yourself with your favorite wines from the great wine list we've put together. If we get a lot of positive response, we may extend the program to our St. Matthews store, as well - but for this weekend, it's only available at Cafe Lou Lou in the Highlands. See you there!

A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.

Alan, we're running it as long as the cheese lasts this time ;) (- I'll see how it goes and post on Sunday afternoon to let you know). I imagine you're a little bit busy during Friday and Saturday dinner services....
