Tickets now on-sale for Shrimp & Grits Throwdown

by Deb Hall » Fri Jan 23, 2009 11:18 am

Folks,

Tickets now on-sale for Shrimp & Grits Throwdown! You can purchase your tickets on-line now at http://www.featoflouisville.orgjust click on the "Shrimp" to purchase your tickets.

I've gotten a number of questions on tickets, so I'm posting the answers in one place for easy reference:

Question: Can I purchase tickets the day of the event?
Answer: I strongly recommend purchasing tickets in advance- we hope to sell out the event before the 9th. Also, if we are not sold out, there will be very limited ticket sales the night of the event as our Chefs need to plan their food quantities in advance.

Question: When will tickets be available at participating restaurants?
Answer: We are delivering posters and tickets to the restaurants starting today. I expect it will take the weekend before everyone has tickets and posters.

Question: I'm a competitor- how do I request posters and tickets for my restaurant?
Answer:We will be bringing posters to your restarant over the next several days. If you'd like to request a specific number of posters or tickets to sell, please PM deb and she'll make sure your message gets to the right person.

Thanks!
Deb

Hey guys,
Just got my ticket, I can't wait to meet and greet. I also can't wait to try the shrimp and grits!! Did you know that there is a possible link to the use of gluten and autism? Jenny McCarthy's son had autism, and when she put him on a gluten free diet, his autism went away. I am glad to be helping support such a wonderful group. Thanks to everybody in advance for putting this together.

Alan,
No one has identified a true cause of Autism. And while gluten in the diet can cause symptoms to be heightened it does not cause autism. We took our son off of Gluten and Casein and it greatly reduced undesirable behaviors, such as arm flapping and tantrums. The theory is that it acts like an opiate in the system and therefore makes it pretty hard for a kid to deal with the outside world. Once those distractions were removed and his head was cleared a bit, we were able to make some real progress in terms of learning.

I am not familiar with Jenny McCarthy's son's situation but I do not think that removing gluten alone cured him. Again, I could be wrong and it would be great if it was the only thing they had to do, to successfully cure him. Not sure if there are many people that totally loose the diagnosis. Very strange disorder but we are learning more each day.
thanks for supporting the event. It is going to be a blast.

Jenny McCarthy is the same person who is saying childhood vacinations cause autism and is campaigning to keep kids from getting them. It scares me to think people would want to expose their child to disease based on one unproven theory.

Melissa, thanks! I'll bring the Nikon, with the battery charged!

HEY! You guys have any interest in sharing our Bats tix this year? We may give them up if we can't find a few friends to go in with us. 72 games is too many, but 18 each for a cartel of four would be perfect. I should really start a new thread, but PM me if you and Tom would be interested ...

Latest on tickets/availability as of Monday night:

LouLou has them now- I just dropped them by today. They are also available at Westport General Store, Big Spring CC, L&N, Juleps, Captain's Quarters, Shady Lane,Corbett's, and if I can get off my hill tomorrow they will be at Baxter Station and Windsor in New Albany. Son of a Sailor will have theirs later this week.

We are out of cable/TV, so had the radio on in the kitchen for updates. In the middle of our pancake breakfast, we suddenly heard J. J. Jackson on Louie FM promoting tickets for the Throwdown ( Its on their site too).

Thanks, J.J.!!!

Folks,

Great news- we've sold 200 tickets for the Throwdown and now we are SOLD OUT!!!!!!!

To all the restaurants out there with tickets in-hand- please do not sell anymore tickets effective immediately. As explained earlier, with on-line and restaurant sales, we distributed more tickets than we actually have room for. Please respond to my e-mail sent earlier today with your sold ticket count so we'll have our final number.

Thanks,
Deb
