Nashville Recommendations

by Brad Keeton » Tue Jan 20, 2009 12:05 pm

We're heading to Nashville next weekend to visit a law school buddy of mine, and some recommendations would be good. I'm particularly interested in somewhere interesting for dinner. This will be more of a fun dinner, so I'm probably not interested in anything too "fine-dining." It doesn't have to be inexpensive, just not too "white tablecloth." Thanks.

I went to college in Nashville. Their dining scene is not as great as the Ville, but my hands down favorite restaurant is Zola. The ambiance is just as good as the food. You won't be disappointed. http://restaurantzola.com/ Another great one is Tin Angel. Its as Nashville as you can get. http://www.tinangel.net/

Oh sorry, I missed another great one. Bound'ry. If you don't eat there, you can still check out its amazing bar and treehouse bar. You may run into a few Titans... http://pansouth.net/boundry/index.php

The only place I've been to recently was the Loveless Cafe, on last summer's road trip to New Orleans. Probably the best biscuits I've ever had in my entire life. It's kinda south of the city, but it's well worth the drive.

I second the Loveless Cafe -- downhome country cookin' http://www.lovelesscafe.com

There's also a Maggiano's Little Italy on West End Ave (near Vandy)...it's a chain, but great atmosphere and menu....and try Macke's for Sunday Brunch...

I recommend a little place just north of Nashville called Ri'chard's Cafe where the food and the music are both lively. You never know when the owner (Ri'chard) or maybe the cook will join in with the band or songwriters. I have been there twice and got the jambalaya both times and it was very good, slow cooked. You must save room for the beignets...they are great! It's a small place so you might want to reserve a table. Here is their website http://www.richardtrest.com/. Let us know where you end up going and how you liked it. I love Nashville! :D

Every time I go to Nashville, I HAVE to go to the Calypso Cafe: http://www.calypsocafe.com/home.htm

Their chicken with Caribbean barbecue sauce is one of my favorite things in the world!

I can strongly recommend Miro District Food and Drink on Adelicia Street just off Broadway. Vandy is just a couple blocks away. It is a beautiful space and the food was outstanding when we visited in late November.

Everytime I go down to Nashville I always make a point to stop and get lunch (or dinner) at a place called Noshville. They have 3 locations, two of which are close to the West End Ave area around Vanderbilt. Great affordable entrees. They call themselves a real New York delicatessen I think it caters to the jewish community there, but it certainly is anything but bland. It's wonderful! Their potato latkes are out of this world!

Well, on the advice of two colleauges that spent a few years there at Vandy, and the suggestion of the friend I'm visitng, it looks like we're going to Sunset Grill. It looks great, but I'm worried that no one here recommended it!

Either way, thanks for all the input, and I'll definitely rely on some of the suggestions for lunch options, etc. I keep hearing that Pizza Perfect is really good?

Sunset Grill is fantastic. Its in Hillsboro Village which is also great for night life. They have the best dessert menu in town. The reason I didn't suggest it is its a little pricey. While out in Hillsboro, stop by Jackson's for a signature martini or go to Boscos for some of the best microbrew beer in town.

Pizza Perfect is ok but I've had better. Its definitely a Vandy student place (I'm a Vandy alum) similar to SATCO. Another great place for lunch is Sub Stop-- the big pink building on Broadway (which is 21st Ave). I could go on and on about Nashville eating. You really can't go wrong with all of the suggestions I've seen posted. Enjoy!

Thanks, Jess. Good to hear about the nightlife, too. It's always nice just to finish dinner and head on out. I hear that there's a habanero butterscotch bread pudding at Sunset that's pretty amazing, with a nice kick to it.

Thanks again for all the tips.

Well, well. That sounds fantastic. I'm going to officially plot to steal this dessert. You heard it here first, people.

Would you like for me to steal and feeze a chunk of it for you to analyze in your lab?
