Geez, that pretty much knocks my profession in the head ...

Is only my opinion. And, it wasn't all inclusive. Golly gee.

I have a friend who is a university-trained musician and is always making pronouncements on what is and what isn't good music. I tolerated him for seveal years until he said that he thought the music of 'nSync was pretty good. I stood up and proclaimed loudly that I would never take his musical judgment seriously again.

You have made a number of statements about good taste on this forum, most of which I appreciated. But chili out of the can is the culinary equivalent of 'nSync.

You might not want to let folks know about all your taste in food.

Sounds like there are few places in town I need to try for chili. I have tried some of the Mexican places and find that in most cases they make chili hot but not flavorful.

Steve, as far as Chile in a can goes, it's marginally acceptable for use on hot dogs with a little doctoring but certainly is not edible be the standalone dish!

It is in one of the buildings downtown. I have no idea which one. It has been a while since I've been there -- but Charles make a pretty good chili there. I tease him that it isn't as good as my Mother's, but it is hard to beat Mom's cooking to start with.

Like many people I'm sure, every meal I eat can't be refined. And chili is something I don't eat out. On top of that, I never said chili from a can is excellent cuisine, nor have I recommended it as such. In fact, I'm not sure why chili would ever be considered refined cuisine in any form or style. It's a simple spicy stew, for freakin' sake.

I'm starting to wonder if I'm more in league with robert s. than I originally thought.

OK, I just slapped myself. Heh.

Hormel chili tastes all right, yeap, out of the can, with nothing added. It's chili! Not haute cuisine! (there, I feel better now)

On edit: Don't take what I said too hard. It's a superficial rant.

Chili.

I have a new addiction. The bison chili at Humana's new area on the 500 block of West Main is truly to die for. Beans and LOTS of meat and little else. Actually, I take it back to my desk and spice it up a bit, but it totally rocks. Anyone who wants to try it out, just PM me and we'll make it happen. Even canned chili eating Steve. I have an open enough mind to invite everyone.

I must agree that a true "chili" you wont find here in the River City. But in the Fall there are are a few Chili cookoffs that you can go to and sample some of the best(and worst) of what this fine city has to offer. Although, I would avoid the one at Churchill Downs for any serious Chili. I mean really, Does Kingfish(a past participant) have chili on thier menu?

Yes.

"<b>Churchill's Favorite Chili</b> Award-winning Texas-style chili with or without pasta, topped with cheddar cheese. $4.99"

I can't attest to the quality, and I call BS on "Texas-style" if it has spaghetti and cheddar.

But it's true! It's on the menu.
