Did anyone get to check out the new Z's Fusion last night?

by Sue H » Thu Jan 15, 2009 9:12 am

As I understand, last night was the soft opening of the new restaurant. Did anyone get to go? What was it like? Are they open to the public now? I am excited to hear about it and wonder if my pocketbook will allow me to go.

We had a couple of people there, although I couldn't go. Hope they'll report!

It IS open for public business today, as I understand it. If you go, Sue, bring back a report!

They're open today. It is a beautiful space! I talked with Dallas, who somehow managed to look relaxed and rested. There were many food and beverage teasers, and I tasted several. They were all wonderful and it was standing room only. Visit soon!

I was there assisting Vanguard Wines, and relieving Bernie from Knob Creek for about an hour while he ran to another event...the space is very pretty, particularly behind the bar. Sushi bar station was a very cool idea, oyster shooters were phenomenal, and the curried panko crusted, fried artichoke hearts with lemon garlic aioli (I'm told it will top a salad on the menu) were fantastic...all went perfectly with the Hiedler Gruner Veltliner, a racy white available by the glass...best of luck to the Z fusion staff!

Sue,

I was there, but unfortunately meetings all morning will force me to delay my "review" until this afternoon. Suffice it to say it was fabulous: gorgeous re-vamp of the space, eclectic and wonderful food, and surprisingly, extremely well- priced ( Lunch entrees are $8-16, Dinner entrees are $17- very low $20's, topping out with a 8 oz filet for only $28.95). :!:

For those of you working downtown- they ARE open today, including lunch service. If you can, I'd run over there for lunch today to check it out- before word gets out and the crowds descend. :D

I was, behind the bar last night and I felt it went very nicely, although I missed Stacy and Jeremy. :(

I did get to enjoy some time with the Halls, though! :D

We are officially open for service, both dinner and lunch, and look forward to seeing everyone soon!

So excited to try it. This, coupled with Dustin's news about the grocery/bar/lounge/etc. coming in on 4th is great news for downtown.

Brian and I were there last night and had a wonderful time. The former Kunz's space has been gorgeously re-vamped into a new space that's both contemporary and eclectic. There is a great vibe here that is somehow both energizing and calming at the same time. ( this may be in part due to the striking "blue river of light" on the ceiling that greets you at the door, and runs throughout the main dining area.) Great bar area and great service ( thanks Stephen!) - I definitely see this becoming the new "hot" place for professionals after work.

As the name would suggest, the menu is fusion of different cuisines- a melding of pan-asian, Italian, middle eastern, Indian and American influences into something uniquely their own. The food overall was excellent ( with a few very minor kinks as would be expected on opening night, with an huge volume of people attending ). These were our personal favorites:

· Pickled Oyster shooters- Raw oysters served in a mango – onion salsa with a tomatillo- sambal vinaigrette and a cucumber garnish, served in a shooter glass

· Miniature Ahi Tuna Burgers with spicy Creole aioli- Perfectly cooked with a great little “kick” – these in full size are on the lunch & ( I believe) the dinner menu.

· An outstanding fried artichoke heart appetizer topped with lemon aioli

· A nice selection of sushi, with our favorite being Crawfish Mango sushi roll topped with a spicy mayo

· Lemongrass Crab cakes, lightly breaded with panko and topped with an orange- basil remoulade. We found these to have a very clean crab taste, ( & almost no filler) paired very nicely with the remoulade.

And to top it all off, we both have a new favorite cocktail: the Fusion Cocktail. A perfectly mixed combination of Finlandia grapefruit vodka, Lychee liquor and Plum wine, shaken, then served in a martini glass. Perfectly clean and crisp, with a just a hint of fruit, this is dangerously drinkable and an excellent pairing with the food. We will definitely be drinking a lot more of these!

As I mentioned previously, while I haven’t seen the portions, I think the menu is exceptional well-priced. Lunch entrees range from $8-16, Dinner entrees $16.95 to very low $20s, with the exception of their 8 oz filet for only $28.95.

Congratulations to Dallas, Mehrzad and the staff. It was a great evening, and I think you have a winner on your hands!

I'm to pass Kudos on to Dallas and all. My bride took some associates from the Nashville branch of Frost Brown Todd to Z's Fusion for lunch today.

All had fabulous meals though the descriptions are vague other than "pork chop for me, sushi for another, pasta for another and pork chop for the last one. Plating was beautiful, food outstanding and the inside looks really cosmopolitan metro. Everyone from Nashville lamented that they have nothing there to rival the majority of our restaurants."

High praise from all.

Edited to remove any notion of straying from the fireplace today.

I was there and I must say Dallas did an amazing job Amber "Cakes'" cheesecake bites were to die for....the spirits and conversation were brilliant. All in all, it exceeded the mastery that we knew it would be.

Does anyone know what the lunch hours are, have a phone number, or know if they take reservations? I work in the Aegon building and my husband works in the PNC building and we are going to go for lunch today the second they open for lunch to beat any crowds. I can't wait!!!!!

I'm sure stoked to give this "Z" a try.

Stephen, will you be behind the bar or serving?

Excellent "opening review" Deb!
