White House Chef

In case you didn't see it, from today's Chicago Tribune:

Michelle Obama has announced that the current occupant of the top toque in the White House kitchen, Cristeta Comerford will be the new White House chef despite feverish speculation among foodie bloggers that the Obamas might tap fave chefs Rick Bayless or Art Smith

So Obama is keeping the current chef.

I would have been more surprised had Rick Bayless or Art Smith been tapped for the job. Though the position carries some prestige, why would a chef with a wildly successful commercial operation give that up?
