Scharffen Berger. Hands down. I love the Milk Chocolate. It tastes like caramel.

For chocolate I select freshest over name brand of any kind. See's when I'm out in California near their kitchen is the best of anything I've ever had, but then you get it absolutely fresh.

Don't get me wrong--I do not discriminate when it comes to chocolate, but I prefer chocolate that's handpicked from a candy store like the one on Dundee or the one that used to exist in Oxmoor. Occasionally, Doug will see me salivating over the chocolate dipped strawberries at Godiva and we'll spend $5 on one of those.

I grew up in Long Beach California, so See's is my favorite from forever. I order it on line, other than during Christmas, when they're in the mall. Shipping fees are kinda steep, but some things I just gotta have

How about Jamieson's (sp?) the African chocolate that's distributed by a Kentucky company somewhere around Lexington and widely available in Louisville (Heine's, Lotsa Pasta, etc.) in small bars?

Or for really high-quality artisan chocolate on the national scene, how about Recchiuti? Or the currently trendy Zern's of Seattle, where Pres-elect Obama reportedly gets his guilty pleasure, tiny chocolate-covered caramels dusted with fleur de sel? (We ordered a tiny box for way too much money, and yes, they are addictive.)

I have visions of making my own chocolate covered caramels with Fleur de Sel.... as soon as I find the time!

Vosges Exotic Chocolates- "Barcelona Bar". All of their chocolates are wonderful, but this one: Chocolate bar with Hazelnuts and sea salt- is out-of-this world good! An incredible luxury for $5-6. It's one of Brian & my top guilty pleasures ( with a little single barrel bourbon ).
