If you had a restaurant, and wanted to have a limited wine list, would any of you consider Smith Berry Wines.

Well, since you asked for an explanation instead of just an answer. I've had it several times in I really don't think it's very drinkable. Heck, I personally think Yellow Tail is considerably better and it's cheaper. There are actually quite a few reasonably priced wines that are pretty good, especially when you consider the price, so there's no sense in drinking ones that aren't good. Maybe they make some wine that is good but from what I've tasted I wouldn't buy it again.

Steve, they make quite a few different wines. Some serious varietal wines and some sweeter stuff meant for White Zin lovers. Some of their dry reds - Norton, and the Brother John blend - could pass for wine from more noteworthy regions. You have to pick and choose, but some are worth a look if you want to feature a local wine. Those guys are practically your neighbors. Give Chuck Smith a call and go over and do some curious, skeptical tasting.

Steve,

I had several of the Smith Berry Wines at special event at Lilly's this summer, and really enjoyed several of them. ( Unfortunately I don't remember which)). I'm with Robin: do some tasting of your own and decide for yourself. The fact that they are local ( and in your case super-local) should be a plus with your guests.

Chuck also holds large events, concerts and the like, during the warmer months. They are a great way to see the winery and taste the wines and enjoy a home-cooked meal (I think Chuck still does all the cooking).
