Lobsters Just Wanna Have Fun

Want something fun to do in the ville in January? Can you eat more than one lobsta? If so, count your change. $185 buys you a seat at Lobsterfeast buffet benefiting Actor's Theatre January 24th. We've sold 620 tickets so far. Also on the menu : pulled pork barbecue with Woodford Reserve sauce, corn on the cob in the husk (G. Hs. Chef is from the Virginia Beach area) green beans, a crunchy winter salad tossed with spinach, dried cranberries, bleu cheese and toasted pecans and for dessert Keeneland style bread pudding served warm with a hard sauce, a warm dark chocolate sauce and whipped cream on the side. New this year is the cocktail Lobster On The Beach. ( I'm still working the presentation.) We were doing Lobsters Just Wanna Have Rum until the realization our sponsor, Brown Forman, no longer owns a rum. The point is to have fun, eat lobster and dance. What more can you ask of life? A portion of the live auction went on line this a.m. Check out racing on the track....you have to bring your own horse and friends with horses to race you...but you can say, "I've raced at Churchill." We are also raffling off a Smart Car. $100 a ticket. To date, we've sold 210 tickets. It's a great run about or an very impressive gift. :) Okay, you could sell it and make yourself 13K. So go on line and check it out at http://www.actorstheatre.org Sincerely yours, the menu committee CD

Short of lifting someone's wallet, I have to save each month to eat lobster in January. But I budget for it under my Mental Health category. :) It also makes an excellent gift for the light depraved one more winter here and I'm moving crowd. CD

Well, ends up the firm I work for has bought a table for the event, so my wife and I will be there. Looking forward to it.

Oh good! It really is a bright sunny thing to do in January and it's pretty hard to mess up fresh lobster. Although, the image I got of Chef running to the showers itching from what I didn't quite understand, in today's Courier's article , might not have the desired effect we were hoping for on the menu committee. Still I'm glad you will be there! :D CD

Yeah, I just read that about the chef's itches, but I guess cooking thousands of pounds of lobster in an evening might do weird things to you.

Just curious, Catherine, but how many tickets have been told to date?

About 720. And we've sold about 275 raffle tickets for the Smart car. But the raffle tickets are continuing to sell on line as well as the Bring Your Own Horse live auction item (Churchill's donation of the track for two hours).CD

So Brad or anyone else for that matter, how did we do Saturday? Any feedback I can share with the committee would be appreciated. CD

Catherine - I thought the event was a very good time. The sides from the buffet were very good, and the lobster was good. It was overcooked a bit for my taste, and some had retained a lot of the steaming water, but I suppose those small issues are to be expected when cooking 1600+ lobsters. It was still lobster, and still delicious (I had 2!). The servers for our table (table 1) did a great job, and were always around when we needed something.

The auction items were wonderful, though most were out of our bidding range. We had to leave before the dancing part kicked off, so I hope that was a great time.

We'll definitely plan on returning next year.

I'm so glad you ate two! We allocate two per person. At one point I walked around to each of the tables. I spoke to one woman who was on her fourth lobster. I don't know how she did it. :) Thanks so much for the feedback. Definitely stay for the dancing in 2010! CD
