Fast Food: Ads vs. Reality

by Sonja W » Wed Apr 25, 2007 9:27 pm

These pictures are amusing.

"Each item was purchased, taken home, and photographed immediately. Nothing was tampered with, run over by a car, or anything of the sort. It is an accurate representation in every case. Shiny, neon-orange, liquefied pump-cheese, and all."

Fast Food: Ads vs. Reality

by Doogy R » Wed Apr 25, 2007 9:51 pm

I worked at Mc D's for 21 years and I won't argue that what you see in the advertisements isn't what you get when you make the purchase. Is this any different for any product you buy? Since I'm not gonna argue the point, I'm gonna leave it at that. Just think about the question I posed and have a nice evening.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

Food Porn

by Suzi Bernert » Wed Apr 25, 2007 10:33 pm

the ad guys pay "food stylists" big bucks to make the food look mouth-watering. They use a lot of non-food substances to make it look so good. Nothing that is edible can live up to that picture in the ad. actually some of the pictures look pretty good compared to the things I have seen/gotten at local fast food outlets.

All ad stylists do the same thing with all items touted in the ads, not just food. I guess I am a bit defensive after working in the biz for 24 years.

They all do it....and it is not just fast food places....they even make fake steam to make it look hot.

There was a time that food stylists would glue sesame seeds on a hamburger bun to photograph that infamous "sesame seed bun"!

It is more than likely happening today too!

Yeah, but it's still funny.

I like this statement at the bottom of that page:

This is an ongoing Pulitzer-caliber project. Check back for updates!

Yyyeeaaaaah. Pulitzer-caliber. If pulizter caliber means putting together a bad web page based on observations made for years by anyone who has ever seen an advertisement...

I seriously hope that's just an attempt at humor that they simply failed to get across.

I saw it and took it as humor, albeit not very successful. The overall site is hilarious, in a sophomoric sort of way ... I can't deny laughing out loud at some of the bathroom humor in his KFC "bowl" review ...

This website is a clever exercise, even if it's not entirely illuminating. I don't think anyone expects that the depictions in advertisements will exactly match what they actually get. It doesn't take long for people to get wise to things like this.

Didn't get a chance to look at the rest of the site, being at work, so it probably would have come across as more obvious if I'd had the context of the site overall.

I guess you couldn't call it fast food if it looked like the ads? That's advertising though. I really hate mass advertising.

I laughed pretty hard at the Famous Bowl tale. The guy has a talent for weaving a tale.
