Carly Rae's

by Brad Keeton » Mon Jan 05, 2009 3:30 pm

Just a quick thumbs-up for Carly Rae's. My wife and I had dinner there Saturday evening, and were not disappointed. We hadn't been before, and often forget about it (we're too Highlands focused I think), but I had to drop by the Rud to pick up the credit card I left with the bar on NYE, so we thought we would give CR's a shot.

We were very pleased with food. It's definitely no frills, straight-up solid food. We started with the bacon bruschetta appetizer, my wife had the fettucine alfredo, and I had the jambalya. All was good, and I was very pleased with the jambalya - perfect amount of spice, but not too much burn. The beer selection was impressive, and I was very pleased to see Magic Hat #9 on draft. Service was good, but the restaurant was not very crowded. I hope that's just because it was the weekend after NYE and everyone was staying home. Our server did tell us that a 30-top was starting to trickle in, so that's good. I was pleased with the decor, and would like to go back in better weather to enjoy the patio.

I have been underimpressed with the previous restaurants that have been in that spot, but found Carly Rae's to be a solid, unpretentious, and easy-on-the-wallet addition. It wouldn't be my first choice for fine dining or a special occassion, but it's a good place to go for good meal.

The kitchen is currently being headed up by Chase Thompson who worked for me @BBC (quite capable I might add though not nearly as good looking as me..). I decamped back in September to shoot myself in the foot at Speakeasy.....oh well! Good to hear they are doing well and I wish them the best.
