My Patria: Tienda Mexicana, Carniceria, and Taqueria

by JustinHammond » Fri Jan 02, 2009 5:03 pm

My Patria
808 Lyndon Lane
502-339-9420

Finally went in this place on Wednesday and I'm glad I did. This place has it all. Whole pigs, cow heads, homemade chicharrones, and a taquira/restaurant to boot.

I had the chicken tamales and chicharrones and they we both awesome. I spoke to a guy with carry out and couldn't get him to stop singing praises on their food. I'm going back tonight for some other goodies.

This is more than a taquira; the menu is expansive and includes fish and steak dishes. There are 6-8 tables if you care to dine in.

How did I miss this post? Do you know the hours for food service Justin? Any chance they serve at lunch?

They were serving tonight around 7. Apparently the tamales are only available weekends, but I was more than pleased with my chorizo burrito. Very tasty meat with rice and salsa on a very good tortilla topped with delicious cheese! I had a lime jarrito soft drink to wash it all down. My mom got chicken fajitas, which were good, but mine was the best!!!! 8)

I don't know the hours, they are not posted anywhere. I have been there at 1:00 and 7:00 and they are always serving food.

I went last night and had a chrizo and barbacoa taco; awesome food.

I favor this place over Taco Torendos.

I think my last post on this place was deleted.

Justin,
Highly unlikely that Robin deleted your post- that's extremely rare here.

I had a similar "disappearing post" problem lately, I'm guessing yours was the same cause. My guess: someone posted while you were posting. The system told you that ,and asked if you wanted to reconsider your post in light of the new post. You didn't notice this (no one ever does!) and you clicked ENTER, which in this case had the effect of canceling your post. At least that's what happened to me....

Thanks for the scoop Justin. I stopped by for lunch yesterday and got an asada, pastor and chicken taco to go. They were excellent. And there are much more adventurous choices for those of you that are into that kind of thing. What a great little spot!

Oh yes, brain and gut tacos. I don't think I'm that adventurous. I just can't say enough about this place. I buy all my limes, cilantro, chirizo, and jarritos there.

The only reason to be a bit tripa-datious about the "guts" is because of a preconceived notion as to what food is or is not. Seriously, that taco de tripas is one of the best things I've eaten in a long time. If I handed it to you and simply said it was pork you wouldn't bat an eye. Crispy bits, chewy bits, meaty bits. Fantastic.

Menudo and sesos, I can see. There's a definite visual gross-out factor there. That's not true with tripas.

I agree 100%, but preconceived notions are very powerful. Maybe if they would serve margaritas I could get the "guts" to try gut tacos.

It was GREAT! I'm holding the details for next week's Voice-Tribune review, but we had lengua tacos and pastor tacos and a giant mound of wonderful carnitas and Mary had a whole fried fish. The people are very nice, and their young son, who has perfect English and helps serve the tables, was amazing. We loved that place.
