What food-related gifts did you score?

by BrianW » Fri Dec 26, 2008 12:04 pm

Curious what food-related gifts others may have received for Christmas, whether gift cards or product...

I was given four bottles of various Gibb's hot sauces, three of BW3s wing sauces, four pounds of Gary West Charcuterie (brats, italian, and knockwurst), See's dark chocolate bars and mollases chips, and last but in no way least: $65 @ BW3.
Liberalism is a 'no brainer'.

I got two Cookbooks (one for soups, one for pastas)
hand me down cooking magazines
an antique juicer
little over-proof bean pots
canisters
apple peeler-slicer-corer
cookie cutters
cooking utensils
some kind of zig zag slicer thing
and a fruit cake

I think I'm the most excited about the soup book (fruitcake is a close second).

I got a couple pieces of Le Creuset, a nice copper pot, a 10 inch Henckels chef knife, and a big chinoise. All in all I did well.

A whole bunch of stuff, but the one that matters to me:

'1001 Foods You Must Taste Before You Die' by Frances Case, et al.

(opens the book)

Lovage, Culatello di Zibello, Icre, Sao Jorge, Goma Dufu, Bellflower Root, Rose' de Riscoff Onion, Ackee, well you get the point!

I've already discarded the cover sleeve. I want this book to know it is gonna get READ.

My sis knows my love for all that makes me feel pain. Thusly, I am the fortunate recipient of Ass Kickin' Original Hot Sauce with Habanero, Ass Kickin' Olive Oil with habanero and garlic and Ass Kickin' Habanero popcorn. The aroma of the olive oil is addictive. Thanks lil sis. I love you. Oh, and she also brought me a 2 liter of Ski Pop. Yummo.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

DH received his favorite fruitcake made by the Gethsemine monks and we also received a $100 GC to Corbet's!!!!!! ::dances::sings::

Our DD and SIL rock.

And DD received a year's worth of vegan pesto. DH grew the basil (organic, too!) and tracked down some of the ingredients, and I made the pesto and packaged it.

Stephen- I recieved the book for my birthday- it's a food lover's challenge isn't it?
I got two books
The Story of Sushi: An unlikely Saga of Raw Fish and Rice
Secrect Ingredients: The New Yorker Book of Food and Drink. 80 years of food writing- I can't wait.
A high tech oven mit
A large box of Bisquick.- It is a running joke in my family that the two things I seem unable to make are biscuits and dumplings. Where is the emoticon for hanging his head in shame?

Jeez, Gary. When do you want me to come over and teach you how to make biscuits?

I'm actually teaching a biscuit class at Campbell's next year. :) So, you're not alone.

Lovely olive oil, balsamic vinegar and saffron, hand-carried from the spice market in Istanbul!

I received a bottle of wine and candy from my girlfriend that she handpicked in Spain. I'm not sure of the exact details of either, as they are not in front of me nor do I have the information committed to memory. I'm sure the wine will be enjoyed before she heads back over the pond.

I also received the pleasure of eating my mom's homemade cookies for days on end. I think she made about 20-25 different versions this year. Not quite sure I have sampled all of 'em yet. Need to get back into the car and drive back over the parents' house it seems.
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

My in-laws were kind enough to bless me with a sampler pack of J.W. Dundee beer.... :? I believe this is the equivalent to buying a restaurant owner a gift card to Outback Steak House. At least I had a place to put it.... I just re-gifted it to my store's inventory.

Didn't receive anything relevant, but I took a bottle of Orogeny Pinot Noir and a bottle of Smith-Berry Burley to the family dinner Xmas Eve (purchased from the Wine Rack). I gave a box of Modjeskas from Paul's to my wife, daughter, each of my wife's sisters, and my mother-in-law. I try to buy local.
