Seviche suggestions

by kathy m » Mon Dec 15, 2008 11:13 am

I'm going to Seviche for the 1st time on Christmas Eve --what suggestions can you offer to keep the cost under $20 ? (I don't mind appetizers as entree, or splitting an entree that's a large serving ...)

Seviche only has 4 entrees under $20, so your options are limited there:
Mahi Mahi Tacos for $13 (probably good, but I'd try another route)
FEIJOADA ($19): Very good, especially if you've never had it
POLLO ASADO ($19): I've never tried it
ROASTED VEGETABLE AND KENNY'S KENTUCKY GOUDA CHIMICHANGA ($18): vegetarian entree--never tried it.

I've always gone seafood or beef there.
You could try seviche, but even there you're in the $13-15 range.

As for appetizers, I think their calamari is wonderful ($10), as are the empanadas ($8-9), the mussels ($8), and the Columbian Arepa ($11)

You can see their menu at: http://www.sevicherestaurant.com/menu1.html

Churrascos De Argentina

by Sherrie G » Mon Dec 15, 2008 12:11 pm

You could easily share the Churrascos De Argentina. Who knew skirt steak could be so flavorful and tender? And addicting - I can't seem to order anything else when I go to Seviche - and I managed to eat the entire meal (which is HUGE) by myself - I wouldn't think of sharing. But you could.

And if you don't mind hitting the $40 mark for two, order the Chino-Latino Tuna seviche. So good. And always so fresh.

Enjoy your visit - whatever you get, you can't go wrong. The food is always fantastic there.

The Vegetable Chimichanga is really wonderful- and massive. It is one of my favorite entrees- especially when I am hungry.
You could also do mussels or Arepa (3 shrimp on a corn cake with manchego cheese) with a salad.

Why not try a seviche tasting? There are different levels - can't remember them specifically - and you get to sample a lot of amazing tastes. I don't know if I could go there without having the hamachi yellow tail tiradito. It is really just a taste; it's a small dish. But the flavor is not like anything you've had before.

But I'll also put in another vote for the chimichanga. Really yummy.

I might add that I have never had anything at Seviche that was even mediocre, so anything you pick will be good.

Partner up with someone and get a five seviche tasting for $40. It's not an incredibly filling meal, but often when I am on a budget, I will eat a little beforehand because: a. You're not distracted by your appetite and can enjoy your company. and b. The things I usually like the most on a menu are served in small portions, like fois gras, escargot, and seafood apps.

The tasting is always a great conversation starter, too.

Saving money around christmas is important for everyone right now.
I usually enjoy Seviche on Sundays. 1/2 priced bottles of wine and half off seviches.
Since the storm came and took our electricity a few months ago me and my partner
have enjoyed dinner at Seviches bar at least 5 times. We actually thank the storm
for turning us on to seviche. The atmosphere is fun the entertainment (Chris \ Bartender) is smart and quick
and the food in our opinion is second to none. Try the Ahi Tuna the Mussles, or the Skirt steak. Eating for less then 20 bucks
can be done. Infact you can eat and drink for twenty on Sunday nights.
This is my first post to the forum. I truly enjoyed looking it over. Thanks Mr Garr for setting up this wonderful site.
I will be back

I have had the Pollo Asado on more than one occasion and it is excellent. Very unique. Brightness from the tomato lemon butter and earthiness from the mushroom couscous ragout. Pairs well with a red wine with some fruit to it.
The seviches are fabulous and generously portioned enough to be a light entree. The spicy chicken empanadas feature the same vibrant chimichurri as the churrasco and could also be a light entree.
As they say... "It's all good"

The Mofongo is a new appetizer that was only 8 bucks and very filling. Accompanied with a bowl of black bean soup would make a meal in itself.
Mofongo is Puerto Rican pulled pork shoulder with diced plantain, bacon and citrus. It was the best thing I have had in a long time.

Thanks for that tip, Steve. We went in tonight and ordered the Mofongo as an appetizer. Very tasty.
