Bardstown/Baxter corridor

by James Natsis » Sat Dec 06, 2008 4:37 pm

I took a slow drive up the Baxter/Bardstown corridor up from the depressing East Market area. I must say that it was inspiring to see the vibrancy from the foot of Baxter Ave to as far as Gardiner Lane, which by the way has undergone an impressive facelift, read metamorphosis. I would venture to surmise that not only has the highlands area held its own during these trying times, but it may have even improved! You would be hard pressed to find "For Lease" signs as it seems that most of the space is full or filling up. The restaurant scene is as exciting as ever. Too bad the same can't be said for other areas. But at least our pride of Louisville--Baxter/Bardstown--may come out even stronger.

So far, I would say the same of the Frankfort corridor through St. Matthews. But it may take our continued support to keep these treasures strong if the economy continues weak or gets worse.
