Beer,Liquor and Wine License

by Steve Bryant » Tue Dec 02, 2008 11:10 pm

How long does it normaly take after you send in all of your paperwork and pay all of the fees to get your alcoholic beverage license up here? I know in the paper work that was in the packet it said 30 to 60 days but how long did it take you guys that have 'em. Did it really take that long?

At least! It seems like it was the last thing that came in both times we opened. We had standing liquor orders waiting for the license to hit online at the suppliers warehouse. Orders released as soon as they were notified.

I'm in Oldham County. It might take even longer.

Your ad in the legal section of the paper had to have run 30 days prior to getting the license. Once that is in and all the paper work is done then you are ready to go. The ABC folks in Lexington are really very helpful. I would call and chat with them. Contrary to popular belief, they want you to have a license and get up and running as quick as possible. More revenue for them.

I've also found the ABC folks in Frankfort to be extremely helpful ( I fully expected a bunch of bureaucrats trying to make things more difficult, and was extermely pleased to find exactly the opposite).

I'm with Will on this. Once you submit you are good to go. But the ad has to run for 30 days before they can do the license. I think I submitted mine on day 14 or something of running my ad and they issued me my license the day after the 30th day the ad ran.

What took me FOREVER was getting my license application submitted. I had to do renovations, so I had to have building inspections. Not just from the state but from the county too.

1. State Fire
2. Local Fire Chief
3. State plumbing.
4. County plumbing
5. State Electric
6. County Electric
7. State Building
8. County Building
9. Reinspect from County Health (we added a bar with a 3 compartment sink, that had to get signed off on)
10. State ABC Inspector.
11. Local ABC Administrator Inspection

I feel like I'm missing something, because I originally thought I had 12 inspections, but the State building guy might have come by twice, once during the project and once as a final inspection. None of the inspections were a big deal for me. I'm used to the process, my father is a residential home builder. It just adds a day or WEEK for each inspection that needs to be done. Schedules don't always work in your favor.

Thanks for the encouraging news. It's been almost 30 days since I ran the ad in the Oldham Era so I should be hearing something some.

They can fax your license to you too. And you can run up to the Police Dept. in Buckner to get your local license from Lt. Billy Way who is the local administrator.

Good luck. I know serving alcohol will help business but it is not the magic bullet out here in Oldham county.

Be prepared that when it is finally issued it will most likely be around four o'clock on a Friday afternoon. I have rarely seen a license issued earlier in the week.

What's really strange is that I just put this out here yesterday and this morning the State ABC man can in the restaurant with my posters and said it would be no longer than two weeks before I get my license.

Steve,

Glad to here you'll be serving a few frosty cold ones...We're not frequent fried food eaters but we love a good cold one and a piece of fish now and again. Given that we're only 3/4 of a mile down the road from you, I'm sure we'll start seeing you fairly regularly.

That's good news. If your not a fried fish kind of guy maybe you'll go for the Lowcountry Boil or the Peel and Eat Shrimp with "Hot Cocktail Sauce" that has been suggested or maybe some Snow Crab Legs. Yes it's good to know that within a week or two we will be able to offer a cold brewshy, nice glass of wine or even a cold Margarita. Who knows, there might even be a little live entertainment. Just like a fellow told me one day.
