Beer and Gumbo

by Heather Y » Sun Nov 23, 2008 3:57 pm

Okay, made Gumbo, and cornbread for a fiery patio afternoon/eve..... normally a red wine drinker, going with beer for tonight.

Asking you beer drinkers to give me a good recommendation for beer to go with traditional gumbo!

Well as a New Orleans traditionalist I'd be drinking Abita Amber.

I would say a Dead Guy or double dead guy, maybe an IPA something with some hopps to take off the edge of the spicy.

How about an Anchor Steam? I don't know why, just seems right. Not too heavy, yet full of flavor.

Bell's Two Hearted or Tommy Knocker would also be nice.

Since gumbo is now available every Friday at both Lou Lou's, I have found the Schafly pumpkin ale available on tap at each works very well.

Gotta go with Marsha, Dixie Blackened Voodoo is tops, just malty enough to take the edge off, but still crisp and clean and doesn't overpower the Gumbo.

What kind of Gumbo was it?
