Pastry Chef Debbie Richter Joins Avalon Culinary Team
Pastry chef Debbie Richter is now serving her desserts at Avalon. Patrons can continue to enjoy Avalon favorites such as the Brioche Bread Pudding and the Fried Apple Cheesecake - but will now also be able to indulge that sweet tooth craving even more with Richter's new delights.
Debbie loves the challenge of creating something new, something seasonal, and always something fresh. She describes Avalon's new Pumpkin Roulade as a delicious roll filled with sweetened cinnamon cheese filling and finished with warm caramel and homemade whipped cream.
A New Jersey native, Debbie attended the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York and since then has worked in such restaurants as Windows on the World in New York, and after coming to Louisville, spent time at Casa Grisanti and Vincenzo's. She started Sweet Surrender where she won eight annual Louisville Magazine "Best of Louisville" Awards.
Richter sold Sweet Surrender in January 2006 to focus on catering; since the Spring of 2008, she has been dessert supervisor for Clements Catering and Derby Cafe.
