Sari Sari

by Brad Keeton » Thu Nov 13, 2008 9:43 am

We finally ate Sari Sari for the first time last night. We've been wanting to try it for awhile, as my wife is half-Filipina, but unfortuantely she got sick, so dining out wasn't an option. I was still set on trying it, so we got take-out.

The lumpia was wonderful, and I'm not a big egg-roll fan. Being sick, she wasn't feeling too adventureous, and went with the Filipino fried rice with chicken. It was very good, and much better than the fried rice at most Chinese joints. It being my first time eating there, I went with the national dish of the Phillipines, chicken adobo, and I loved it. The chicken was tender and almost shredded, with a slight soy and vinegar flavor to it. The accompanying rice had a slight vinegar taste to it, which I loved. The "Filipino-style beans" were very good as well, but I'm not sure how authentic they are. My Filipina-mother-in-law has never heard of any such thing, stating that they don't eat beans much at all in the Phillipines. Still, they were good and accompanied the adobo and rice well.

All in all, I was impressed. The location itself was very cute, and we'll definitely eat there on our next trip to Sari Sari.

Love the Chicken Adobo. We desperately need to return to Sari Sari. Pete Chamberlain is doing a bang-up job over there!

GET OUT! Pete! What are you up to these days? Had no idea you had left (shows that a return trip to Sari Sari is long overdue)
