Bourbon or Scotch "new world"/"old world"

by Carrie Crouch » Wed Nov 12, 2008 12:49 am

The Oakroom Presents
Rare, Cask Barrel, Single Malt Scotch
Whisky Tasting
&
Four Course Food Pairing, Featuring Chef Nicole Walker

This tasting is for the beer fans that understand the meaning of CASK BARREL, the importance of malt and the complexity of grains.
This tasting is for the bourbon fan who understands the importance of age, tradition and the barrel.
This tasting is for the Scotch connoisseur who wants to be awed and understands the best of this breed.

Bourbon fans, cross the pond, drop the jeans and put a kilt on for the night. I promise I won't tell Bill Samuels or Booker Noe.

Whiskey or Whisky ? Whiskey is the "new world" spelling, hence bourbon whiskey, Scotch is the "old world" spelling, hence Scotch whisky. I feel introducing someone to scotch who enjoys bourbon, is like introducing someone who enjoys Napa Valley Chardonnay on new american oak to a Chablis Valmur Burgundy on used french oak. Pending both are from good producers, this is simply expanding one's horizons and palate------or is it?

Hey Greenup, my fellow scotch drinking buddy! I was wondering if this post would catch your eye.

I am going to have to figure out a way to swing this...the heaven of single malt in a world of bourbon.
