Cafe Lou Lou in the Highlands NOW OPEN - NOW WITH WINE LIST

by Marsha L. » Fri Nov 07, 2008 5:44 pm

Yes! We got open a day early!

That's right, folks, the day we've been waiting for has finally arrived - Cafe Lou Lou in the Highlands is finally open!

We can't wait to meet all the folks that live in the neighborhood and welcome our regulars from the original Lou Lou as well. Reservations are strongly suggested for this weekend (we had a waiting list already). The phone number is 459-9566. Cafe Lou Lou in the Highlands will be open seven days a week, for both lunch and dinner. The menu is a wee bit more casual than the original location, but we still have all the familiar favorite pizzas and calzones, most of the pastas and salads.

The beer list is exciting - so I'm going to go ahead and post it all below:

DRAFT BEERS:

BBC Lou Lou
BBC Bourbon Barrel Stout
BBC APA
BBC Seasonal (this week it's Hell for Certain)
Schlafly No. 15
Schlafly Season (this week it's Pumpkin Ale)
Bell's Winter White
Bell's Expedition Stout
Abita Amber
Stone IPA
Ommegang Rare VOS
Arcadia London Porter

BOTTLES:

BBC Darkstar Porter
Singletrack Copper Ale
Schlafly Pilsner
Schlafly Dry Hopped APA
Unibroue Ephemere
Unibroue Chambly Noir
Arcadia Whitsun
Avery Red Point
Aver Ellie's Brown
Ommegang Hennepin
Ommegang Three Philosophers
New Holland Poet Stout
Rogue Hazelnut Brown
Rogue Double Dead
Breckinridge Vanilla Porter
North Coast Red Seal
Bell's Java Stout
Flying Dog Gonzo Imperial Porter
Stone Oaked Arrogant Bastard
Dogfish Head Indian Brown
Dogfish Head Raison D'etre
Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA
Jolly Pumpkin Calabaza Blanca
Jolly Pumpkin Oro de Calabaza

Marsha, congrats to you and Clay and everyone involved. I'll pop in some afternoon after the rush.
Are you going to be at the Highlands store now? I know it is so much closer to home.

No! I will still be working out of St. Matthews, supplying desserts to both. Yes, the new store is closer to where I live, but on the other hand, the old store is closer to where I work - AND closer to the old Sears building.

Since I know it's not near the old Sears, what is the address of the new location?

It's 2216 Dundee Rd (commonly called "The Loop" or "Douglass Loop") off Douglass in the Highlands. Going southwest on Bardstown Road, bear right at Twig and Leaf. It's in the Loop Mall, formerly The Loop Deli, formerly Heitzman's Bakery, formerly Splendid Fare Deli & Catering. Near the former Dundee Candy Shop space. Right behind Graeter's and Desserts by Helen, near the loop Heine Bros. Coffee. It's right next to the Pink Door on the corner. There is a giant parking area in the rear, with access to the restaurant from there.

I stopped by the new Cafe Lou Lou location on Saturday and they were pretty busy at 6:00. Tried one of the new menu items, black bean lasagna, and it was great.

Slightly spicy and nice flavor combinations. Service was as good as expected.

Here's the current wine list for Cafe Lou Lou in the Highlands - and, yes, we are having half-price bottles of wine on Wednesdays at the new location (and today's Wednesday!). Disclaimer: I know at the original location we have like three of the priciest bottles on reserve, i.e., not available for half price on Wednesdays like everything else, so it may be that a couple of these bottles are NOT available at half-price on Wednesdays, but I can't tell you which ones right now. When I find out for sure I'll edit this post.

Marsha? Your "The Devil's in the Details Devil Food Chocolate Cake" is fantastic. Not that I've had it twice this week at the Loop or anything.

Looks like a really nice list, Marsha. Good variety. I'd be interested to know some of the prices ...

Alsace. Northeastern France, on the Rhine River, a frequent prize of war that has gone back between the French and the Germans many times. Lots of German family names there (note the spelling of Trimbach, by the way, which should end with an H rather than a K) and hearty German food. The wines are very different from the rest of France or from Germany. Mostly whites, very rich and full-bodied. Interesting stuff.
