In Need Of A Good Chinese Buffet

by Bill Veneman » Thu Nov 06, 2008 12:08 pm

Ah, Jumbo has gone down hill, and Double Dragon was double yuck the last time I was there.....is there a GOOD, consistent Chinese dinner buffet in the East End? I know we've been thru this discussion before, but they seem to change with the wind, and I would like to know who's good today! And possibly tomorrow. (Oh, and yes, I don't know about Jade Palace on the weekends----YUM)
If life's a Banquet, what's with all the Tofu?

Cheers!

Forget buffets and go to Red Pepper. Otherwise, Jade Palace does about the best Chinese buffet I can think of....on weekends only?

Forget Chinese and go to Thai Taste or Sari Sari Filipino or Khan's Mongolian (formerly 2 Hahns). I am not kidding about this. As Chinese buffets have become more and more of an industry, they have become less and less desirable; and for quality it's such a moving target that you can't be sure what kind of quality to expect from one week to the next.

Well, Red Pepper is going to get the Veneman try tomorrow evening (I'm warming up the taste buds now)........Jade Palace has the (burp) seal of approval......but they only do dinner buffet of Friday and Saturday.......

Robin, I hadn't thought that route.........I'll have to try Thai Taste and Sari Sari......that just might fit the bill. Thanks........and see you tomorrow.

I agree with Robin, but if you want a Chinese buffet, I would suggest the Royal Garden in Picadilly (sp) Shopping Center on Bardstown Rd close to Hurstbourne Lane.

I go fairly often because it is close to home and pretty good. Oysters on half shell, clams, mussels, peel and eat shrimp and halfway decent sushi. Usually three soups that are quite good. Salad type bar. Quite a few other selections. Even has a pizza (frozen, no doubt) for the rugrats.

Also has a Mongolian grill. I don't care for it. Seems like everything tastes the same.

Consistency is good. Service is excellent. Beer available. Certainly not top of the line, but a good value for about 10.00.

I often wonder if those Chinese Buffets don't just have all their food delivered from a commissary, as they all offer the EXACT same stuff, and it all tastes EXACTLY the same.

Why?
Better to go to a good Chinese or Thai restaurant and enjoy!

Although now featuring a Thai buffet, for years "City Wok" (on Main, between 5th & 6th) was arguably the best Chinese buffet in town....not a huge array of selections, but everything was tasty and fresh (including an excellent General Tso's Chicken).
