Seviche Goose creek closing!

by Anthony Lamas » Sun Oct 26, 2008 3:00 pm

It saddens me to have to do this, but due to the economy I have know choice. We had a fire last weekened and it just added to the pain. I have done everything I could and have put all my passion in this restaurant, but it is not enough. Even the four star reviews and the great product we put out is not enough. I won't feel negetive, because I know what my staff and I have put into this restaurant. It is simply the economy! I will continue the Latin wine dinners at the Bardstown Rd. location and will be back in my original kitchen full time. So, please come visit me there, so I won't have to close that location either. As always buen provecho y muchas gracias

Anthony, that's awful. So sorry to hear it, but please know we're your fans and will definitely be visiting the original Seviche even more often now that you'll be working there more often.

I hope Gary can move back to the Bardstown Rd location! He is such an asset to your organization.

Concentrate on your new family addition and submerge yourself in your original Seviche, and 2009 will be a better year - I'm just happy we're near the Seviche that's staying open!

with love,

Marsha (and John)

Anthony,

You created a wonderful restaurant with fabulous food and a great staff in arguably one of the worst locations in the city for a restaurant, and yes folks the economy is to blame. It is extremely difficult right now and I have a tremendous amount of respect and empathy for what must have been a tremendously tough decision for you. Please everyone eat out with independents as this is another example of a great operator who did everything right and because of this "perfect storm" environment we find ourselves in lost the battle, this saddens me greatly, I will see you on Bardstown road my friend.

I'm so sorry, Anthony. That makes me sick to my stomach. I wish you well.

OH, that makes me so sad :( We were just there with our boys last weekend and it was my very favorite place to go in town. I loved that is was more casual and family friendly than the Bardstown location. I guess not enough people felt the same. So sorry Anthony and staff! When is your last day?

What a loss to the East End and those of us who live and eat here. We'll make the trek to Bardstown Road but this is bitter news.

Anthony, I am more than sad. I am crying. But I am, oh so, relieved to hear that you will continue the Latin wine dinners at the Bardstown Rd. restaurant. :D

I, too, second Marsha's and John's and Tom's support for Gary and add Melanie and Kathryn (sp?) and Patrick. Seviche Goose Creek has had a front of the house staff second to none!

Joining the others, Anthony, that is just terrible news, and I hate to hear of this reverse.

But may Seviche Bardstown Road be the stronger for it, and live long and prosper. I think you can count on a lot of the people on this forum to continue giving you strong support there.

Just out of curiosity, I understand the economy is a big problem, but do you feel that the difference in suburban and urban demographics was a factor? Seviche has such an urban vibe, it seems just right in the Highlands ... but I never quite saw it as quite the same fit in a former Hungry Pelican ... and often wondered about how many of your new neighbors I heard speaking of it as "A Mexican restaurant." :(

I'm so sorry to hear this. What a bright spot in the East End land of bad chains.

Robin, I agree with your general sentiment. It seems people out here want familiar, low-priced, semi-consistent Cisco food. (It's a HUGE generalization, I'm just saying that's for me, in my circle of people)

For my family, the economy has had a huge impact. We simply can't afford the $50-75 range very often. I would rather get new clothing, pay the bills etc... We just can't afford both anymore. We're young"ish" and our aggressively invested savings is 1/2 of what it was 2 months ago.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words and concern for myself and the wonderful staff I've grown to love and respect.
This was the perfect job for me and I will miss it very much- but I always feel that there must be something better waiting in the wings when this kind of thing happens.

The restaurant scene in Louisville is so lucky to have Anthony as a part of it. When I first moved back here 4 years ago I worried that I was going into a culinary backwater. My first taste of his food convinced me that I was going to be just fine.
I have been lucky enough to work with some fine owners and chefs in my many days in the industry, but I can honestly say that none have had the passion and the drive that Anthony shows every day. It has been an honor to work for him and with his kitchen crew.

Although not enough people (it turns out) came through our doors, those that did were remarkably loyal and kind, and I now call many of them friends.

I look forward to seeing what Anthony does next, and to seeing you all soon. And, on the bright side, I now have many more evenings free for going out.

Gary...Karen, Parker, and I will sorely miss seeing you at Seviche on Goose Creek. It had become our local oasis on those nights we needed to be out of the house. Keep everyone informed as to your plans and we hope to see you real soon!

My friends and I enjoyed drinks and great food on the patio many times this summer. It was great having such a fine restaurant so close to home. We are all moms and would meet for an hour or so while the dads were home with the kids. My family and I were planning on going there for dinner on November 5th to celebrate after all the votes were counted and to toast the new President.

I don't know what else to add other than I am so very sorry.
