Let's show Red Pepper some love

by Jon K » Mon Oct 13, 2008 12:12 pm

Had another terrific meal at Red Pepper last Saturday night. Dan-Dan noodles, Three Cup Chicken and lots more. All were outstanding. Unfortunately from 7-8:30 p.m. there were only 3 tables seated (including our own). If you've got a chance stop by for a very good meal. And the same applies for many others in our restaurant community who are really struggling in the current economic environment.

We dine in when we can adn we take out a lot form the Red Pepper! At least once a week I crave Thai or Chinese-since work is a bit here and there-I am trying to cook much more at home BUT when dinning out usually always eat LOCAL...since my business is local and all about local and have lots of friends in the biz-I am ALL about supporting those who are friendly, who care about their employees and customers and serve good food

I've heard this is the best Chinese in town. Gonna go there ASAP and try something.

The last 2 times I've been it's been slow. This isn't all "the economy"...that location is jinxed if you ask me. Go to tonight and eat some pan fried tofu, dan dan noodles, or unique chicken smell.

The folks at Red Pepper really go out of their way to make you feel at home....I think it is the best Chinese in town.

I was posting this message yesterday just as the server went down...

I'm all about showing Red Pepper some love, but I would suggest going on a day other than Friday. I've eaten there the past two Fridays and they were slammed both times. On the weekend of the Art Fair they were so busy I wanted to get up and bus a few tables just to help out. It was about that busy this past weekend, but they had one more person working the door so it wasn't as frenetic. Didn't affect the quality of the food, though.

I'm up for a group outing -- I love Red Pepper and will eat there any time. I've seen them busy more than once, though, and they're almost always doing a steady stream of take-out while I'm there for dinner.

Note: this post may contain elements of wishful thinking.

See the Offlines section ... a group outing is being planned, and we hope we can talk them into coming up with a special Sichuan banquet!

Red Pepper Chinese Cuisine
2901 Brownsboro Road
891-8868

It's the Moorish looking building (originally an Indian restaurant) on the north side of Brownsboro Road just a couple of blocks west of Hillcrest/Zorn.

Here's my original review - read past the defunct Royal India to get to it:

Had lunch at "Red Pepper" today ....my previous lunch visit had been uneven (the Hot & Sour Soup tasted as though someone had forgotten the vinegar -- flat).... much better today.....would enjoy going back sometime for dinner and sampling from their authentic Chinese menu....lunch business still seems thin, however....
