Wanting breakfast meals

by Ellen P » Sun Oct 05, 2008 8:47 am

Help. Need more restaurant breakfast options. Especially this time of the year, we love breakfast - but not too early. On the weekend, anytime after 10:00 or 11:00. For dinner, during the week. We live in western Oldham Co. (unfortunately). I don't like to go to the Bristol buffet - too tempting to eat too much plus I can't take leftovers unless I buy a meal to go, I guess. I prefer bringing 2/3 of my meal home with me - we usually order extra food - because we like eating out and don't want to spend too much time cooking.
Eva Mae's on River Road. Bob Evans. McDonalds, Dairy Queen (no, no). Motels with restaurants?
Lynn's. We stopped in at Wild Eggs recently for breakfast to go. Amazing menu. North End. Cafe on Brent. Toast. All of these places are always so busy and too far away for us to go to and wait for a table on the weekend unless we catch them closer to lunchtime.
If anyone would add some breakfast food to their menus or have any ideas. This time of year, breakfast is a wonderful comfort food.
(Saved the recipes from the CJ the other day for the two breakfast casseroles - both from the Butterfly Garden. I've made the sausage/egg casserole before. The other is a French toast dish. Going to make them for the next UofL home. Assemble the night before. Bake as we get ready. Also bake the Pillsbury frozen biscuits the night before. Some frozen dough pieces - Kroger brand is good. Buy some country ham. Jam. Eggs on the grill. Breakfast has become our favorite tailgating meal.)

My family just went yesterday to Shady Lane Cafe in the Brownsboro Rd shopping center for breakfast and everyone was amazed. I had the Southwestern Omelet and it was the best omelet I have had in a long time, while my 9 year old rated his pancakes as 1/2 a notch below the best he had ever had. We were there about 9:15 am and there was no wait. Great local, Mom and Pop place with very good food and very resonable prices. Be warned though, they aren't open on Sunday.
Have a Good Day!

Hey, Oldham County has options, too! You need to go to Norma Jean's Trackside in La Grange for either weekday breakfast or the brunch buffet on the weekends. Fantastic food and a real steal at $11.99/per person. They have a great waffle & omelette station and always, the best cheese blintzes around :D

I'll 2nd the brunch buffet on the weekends. It's probably a good thing I don't actually live in La Grange or I would be as big as an elephant. Breakfast is my favorite meal and Norma Jean's brunch buffet hits the spot bigtime.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

I'll 2nd Shady Lane Cafe as a really good breakfast option. It can and does get very crowded on weekends. This is a family run operation and they do everything well.

...it's very out of the way, but the best/fluffiest omelet I've ever had was at the Frontier Diner, way down Dixie Hwy.

Good little spot.

Meridian Cafe has a good breakfast menu, served all day, every day. Good option when one person wants breakfast and another wants lunch.
The Grape Leaf also has a good brunch menu, served all day, every day. Their omelets are good, as is the spinach parmesan frittata.
MC and GL don't have a buffet, or traditional bacon, sausage, etc., but they offer a different take on breakfast which I find quite refreshing.
I haven't been there for breakfast, but I would love to try the breakfast menu at Proof.
I wish Cafe Lou Lou would have some breakfast items!

Norma Jean's is a good breakfast site in the OC (though we've heard that the restaurant is on the market)....other good Oldham County options include Irish Rover Too (LaGrange) which offers a limited breakfast menu on weekends (check their website), along with Our Best Restaurant (Smithfield, Henry Co.) which also has a weekend breakfast menu....since Ellen lives in western OC, head down Hurstbourne Pkwy and try Mimi's Cafe -- very good breakfast dishes (try the Eggs Benedict)....frankly, we often head over to the Waffle House in LaGrange....far from an eclectic menu, but hard to beat for good, traditional breakfasts at very reasonable prices....

I just spoke to Norma Jean and the restaurant is still open and planning to stay open as long as the local support is there. Unfortunately, these times are tough and many people may not know about this gem we have out here in Oldham County. If you love NJ's, PLEASE come and have a meal to support them! If you've never been, now is a great time to try it. The menu is so diverse and everything I've had is wonderful.

I just hate hearing about all of our fantastic locally owned places in danger when Cracker Barrel is packing them in nightly...as a small business owner, it's painful!

Have they moved? The last time I ate at Barbara Lee's they were on lower Brownsboro Rd.
