really good mexican?

by ShaneMcD » Fri Oct 03, 2008 12:19 pm

I just wanted some opinions on a really good mexican restaurant in the Ville? My wife and I have tried Ernesto's, El Nopal, El tarasco, and Los Aztecas. Nothing real special to keep us coming back besides we like mexican food! Any suggestions for a place with good reviews, I didn't seem to find anything in past forums. Thanks! Also, what about Chinese(we tried Sesame and its ok?)

La Rosita is the best around. Everything is excellent.

I know it looks sketchy on the outside, but we love the Oriental House on Shelbyville Road for Chinese. I've read here good things about Red Pepper on Brownsboro and for upscale we like August Moon on Lexington Road.

Puerto Vallarta is my favorite! They have a location in Jeffersonville and New Albany.

Santa Fe on Third Street near Churchill Downs and the U of L baseball stadium is great. Their only downfall is not having store-made tortilla chips, but I can always overlook that.

La Rosita is awesome as well. I definitely need to try some more places further out in Jefferson County, though.

Be aware they will not do substitutions. So, if you like to rearrange dishes this one may not be for you.

We've lived in Houston and San Diego, so we were looking for some Mexican ourselves after we moved here.
We like El Mundo on Frankfort the best of all we've tried.

A third vote for La Rosita. I lived for 5 years in Arizona, and did not find a Mexican restaurant that tops this one.

I second Red Pepper, and I like Oriental House- espescially for the Duck, but (as always) like to point out Jade Palace...

For 'the funk' go and find the Gordita trailer. You won't be disappointed!

El Mundo still get my vote.

Although we are also regulars of Mexico Viejo (old El Napolito) on Brownsboro and Fiesta Time out on Westport near the Wal-mart.

Hey Todd...where in AZ? I was born and raised there! Nothing compares to the Mexican food from there. I'm so glad someone asked this question because I would rather go to Taco Hell than most of the places around here. I wont set foot in Ernestos..bleck! I'll have to try La Rosita.

We lived in Cave Creek, a suburb of Phoenix. It was on the north side of the city.
