I'm not sure about local either, Brian, and I shop online too. Still, with heavy economic times possibly ahead, I intend to buy locally as much as I can, and I encourage everyone who cares about our distinctive local identity to do the same.
I needed this ingredient for a recipe (sweet and sour cabbage soup) I was planning on making within the next couple of days, so was hoping to find it locally.
"Sour salt" is just a fancy name for citric acid crystals (often used in canning and candy-making). Try calling around and asking for it where candy-making supplies are sold, only ask for it as "citric acid crystals". It's the stuff that coats the outside of Sour Patch Kids, f'rinstance.
