Rocky's on Westport Road is closed

The economy takes another victim, apparently. This just in from a very reliable source.

It's getting rough out there, folks. Please think about eating at a Louisville indie restaurant for lunch or dinner today, and do it again over the weekend!

This is a bummer. It seems like it just opened...we went here a few times a month for carry-out, as it's very close to home.

I'm surprised at this closing.

This is sad indeed. I normally dined there about once a month. Buckheads is ok, but I like Rocky's better.

The same ownership group, right? I mean roughly the same anyway.

Rocky's has never been the same since they closed the old pizza joint in front of Jeff Boat.

Years ago we were eatting pizza there and orderd a carafe of red wine. It was very cold so we asked if they had any red wine "not-chilled"; the server took the wine away and reappeared in a few minutes. The wine was now warm, boarding on hot, with a foamy head. The wonders of a microwave oven. 8)

Too bad...always had a good experience there....but almost every time I drove by (at least a couple times/week), they rarely seemed to be very busy (judging by # cars in their lot) ..... I also heard Buckhead's was coming into that space.....Rocky's -- come out to Oldham County!!

Agree with earlier post. Rocky's has never been the same since it moved from the Jeff Boat spot. A group of us from downtown Louisville ate there every Friday for lunch back in the old days. We have been to the 'new' place only twice. The food and service are just not the same. Funny how so many successful restaurants from years past fall upon hard times when they try to expand.

Sad to see them cIose, but I don't think it's the location as much. We live about 1/2 mile away and were really looking forward to it as an option. We tried it several times and the wait was long, service not great and the food wasn't as good as the current Jeff location. ( I'd never been to the original so can't compare) If we were in the mood for their food, I'd still have driven over to their great on -the- river- location for better food, better service and fantastic views (love their deck!).

Hoping something great will be moving in soon..if it's Buckhead's we'll probably pass. I've had only very average to poor experiences there.

Buckheads sure will provide an alternative to Oh-Charlies, Chedders, and Rafferty's that are all within a couple blocks of that location.

Including Buckhead's, aren't they ALL chains?

Buckhead's isn't really a chain, they just have 3 local restaurants and unlike the others they are locally owned.

On the subject of Rocky's, I certainly understand why they closed. They were never up to par with the one in Jeff, which itself is not as good as the original (except for view). The service never was great and the place never seemed to have the right feel. It'll be interesting to see how Buckhead's does since they just closed their Shelbyville road location last year.

We should make a new thread on this as I believe if a local place gets to be 3 locations, I believe it is a chain. So, that said, Shiraz is a chain. So is Bearno's, another fave of mine. I LOVE Shiraz. The REAL deal is how they perform after spreading their wings. So far so good Shiraz.

So is Wick's and Boombazz's by your definition. Actually Garret's was too before they went out of business. I think to be a chain and restraunt definitely needs more than three locations and should be in at least a couple of different geographic areas so at least some of them are not considered local businesses (unless they are franchises, which is another matter entirely).
