New restaurant on Bardstown Rd?

by Patrick Kelting » Mon Sep 29, 2008 4:35 pm

Rumor has it that a Greek restaurant will be moving into the old Andrew's Home Cooking spot. Anybody know anything about this?

That is the story I got from a supplier source. They also own a restaurant on the Outer Loop. Sharom's is the name I believe.

Sharoms has one of the better gyros in town. Not quite BosnaMak/Jasmine quailty, but quite good. They also have a website.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

Sharom's is really more of a fish restaurant, their menu is 98% seafood with the exception that they do serve Gyro's. The name used to be "The Fishery", they changed their name to disassociate themselves from the St. Matthews Fishery restaurant. Their seafood is excellent. Not sure if the place on Bardstown Rd will be a different concept or not. You can look at their menu on their website.

There was a short blurb in the Scene last weekend providing details of the restaurant. It will be located near the Bardstown Road Kroger's, and serve Mediterranean grub. It will also feature a fish fry on Friday.

I think the owner's son is going to run the new place. He has not been around the fish joint the last month or so, as it seems he is busy preparing the new operation.
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

The text of the Scene blurb:

Zeytun Mediterranean Grill to open on Bardstown

Shahram Pouranfar, owner of Sharom's Restaurant, 5627 Outer Loop (968-8363), a popular south Louisville seafood spot, plans to open Zeytun Mediterranean Grill in late October in the former home of Andrew's Restaurant, 2286 Bardstown Road.

To symbolize the Mediterranean cuisine he'll serve, Pouranfar, a native Iranian, chose the word "zeytun," "which means 'olive' in seven different languages."

Expect to see sandwiches served on pita, plus salads, gyros, kabobs, hummus, falafel, baklava and a Friday-only fried fish special.

Sharom's (a respelling he designed to make his name easier to pronounce) was founded as The Fishery Station, but the name was changed to eliminate confusion with a similarly named local fish concept.

He owned and operated a Fishery Station at 131 W. Market St. until 2000, when he sold it to restaurateur Majid Ghavami, who now operates Saffron's Restaurant there.
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.
