HELP!!! Need suggestions by the end of today (9/29)

by Rebecca Clark » Mon Sep 29, 2008 9:49 am

I've been called by my alma mater to set up a dinner for 6-8 people at a local restaurant to host our college president who will be in town on Tuesday, October 21. This dinner doesn't need to be in a private room and there will be no presentations given; just old friends getting together and visiting (and I'm sure a "donation" request!). It probably needs to be middle-of-the-road as far as pricing, and a good variety of choices for different tastes. And I need to get back to the AA by this evening! :)

I've thought about The Bristol and Cafe Lou Lou (big booth in the back), but wondered if anyone else would have a suggestion. I would like to showcase our wonderful dining scene to these foreigners!!!

Thanks in advance,
Rebecca

Cafe Lou Lou would be great in terms of a comfortable feel and good, reasonably priced, but it is loud. As I've written before, it's a HAPPY loud, but it could be a problem if your group wants conversation.

Possible other options in the Frankfort Avenue/St. Matthews corridor for a slightly quieter but still amiable environment, also great food, might include Bourbons Bistro, Varanese, Volare and L&N Wine Bar, North End Cafe. This list is by no means exhaustive - haven't even touched on other parts of town. But you're in a hurry, and those are my first thoughts.

Would seem to be that the diversity of the menu and the smaller space (less noise) would make Baxter Avenue Station a possibility.

I've said it before, and I'll probably say it again; picking one entree on the menu there is next to impossible.

Easy location to access with plenty of parking.

Good pick! For the record, I think the name is just "Baxter Station."

The Patron is not loud...especially on a Tuesday. The food is good and reasonably priced. The room is small but I'll bet they could work 6-8 without a problem.

Cafe Metro or Club Grotto both have a quieter atmosphere and very nice menus if you don't mind traveling out Bardstown Road a little bit.

I'll throw Uptown into the mix. I think that L&N would be an excellent choice both for noise level, atmosphere and food. I'd think you'd want something upscale-ish.

The Patron would be very quiet on a Tuesday evening as it is not open on Tuesdays. I pass it each Tuesday night and it is dark. Have you thought of Napa River Grill?

I knew you guys (and gals!) would come through!!! THANK YOU so much! Several of these suggestions sound wonderful. I do agree, Leah, that it does need to be a bit upscale-ish, without breaking the bank. I'll let you know what they decide.

Thanks again!

Mellilos on market.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

The new Napa River Grill is slammed! Great place, but no way would it be suitable for a conversational meeting, I'm afraid. Save it for a party. :)

Grotto is an excellent idea, and not that far out Bardstown. Metro may not fit her "middle of the road" pricing criterion, though.

A little upscale without breaking the bank...has to be Varanese.

The name didn't seem right when I wrote it. Since then I've been walking around all day (away from the internet) thinking, I got that wrong somehow.

Glad you are here to keep order!
