$5 bottle of wine

Amy,

Did you really mean that the Wed Happy Hour special was $5 a bottle, or is it special bottles that are $5 a glass? Either would be a deal....

WOW, 5 dollars a bottle. I could take 50 dollars, hit the Bison Company, Creation Gardens and STILL have plenty of money for wine and food at DeVino's. What a great bargain.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

The question, of course, is what's in the bottle. I'm thinking they're doing basic stuff here - Beringer White Zin, Mondavi Coastal, Gallo of Sonoma, what have you, which would normally sell for $10 a bottle retail, $15 in restaurants, and cost the restaurant about $4 retail.

Tell me they've got some interesting European artisanal wines going for $5, and I am so there ...

I *believe* it's Jacob's Creek wines.

Okay, thanks, Amy! That's a decent but, as I suspected, very inexpensive Australian mass-market wine from a large producer. I'm not sure of its local retail price, but Wine-Searcher.com indicates that it sells widely around the US for as little as $5 or $6 RETAIL for a full bottle. That means that a restaurateur buying wholesale is probably paying about $3 for it, maybe less if they made a largish buy.

Here's our Wine-Searcher link to "Jacobs Creek" ...

How about this for hotel pricing: a 2006 BV Costal Estates Pinot Noir, with all the extras built in for room service, for $54?! I'm guessing this is a $15 retail bottle. Downtown Atlanta is a bit pricey ...
